I don't know if this will interest anything, but a piece of trivia I just found out - you know the 6th verse of "God Save the Queen", with mention of Marshal Wade and crushing the rebellious Scots? Well it was his highland militia, ever loyal to the King, who were to become known as the Black Watch - the one ans same famous Scottish regiment. Rather strange don't you think, that one of the most proud Scot regiments, was founded by an Englishman, and held the role of disarming the Scot highlanders!

not all Scots were opposed to English influence at court....
Jacobites tended to be the Highland Scots or right out Catholic supporters.
 
Lowland Scots had a lot of English blood in them from the early medeval times and frequently opposed their more northern neighbors.
