Subject: At what point do we fuel up the planes and order a strike

Ok so this is not for posters who are sitting at their computers playing war games - this is more for discussion about what the Iranians would have to do - or not do, to precipitate a military response. Or even an ultimatum which threatens military action. What would the ultimatum look like? What sort of action would be taken? This would be from the UK with (presumably) US help. I want to state for the record while I would have preferred stronger language coming out of 10 Downing Street, I completely disagree with Hypocenter as I do not think Blair is weak or has acted weak. I simply want to get an idea from the posters (particularly the Brits) at what point would the British public be clamoring for blood. I'll state my opinion as a reply. I suppose in some sense, this is a thread for those to want to predict what may happen in the next 10-14 days.

Most recently Israel went to war after two of its soldiers were abducted.

That war left Israel humiliated and red faced, and worse still,  they're still waiting to get their soldiers back.

Padfoot, the "humiliating" part for Israel is that they are accustomed to destroying an enemy before it gets to the level that those terrorists got to....Israel has a very formidable military and it's been their lack of hesitation to use it that has kept them as safe as they are...however, they have been held back in recent years by the Europeans and to some degree the US.  Had Israel responded to the first provocation with force, you would have seen the other side far more humiliated.
Also, some of the continental Europeans who supply those terrorists with aid and funding should be more humiliated.

The resulting battle is over... But the war is not.

Israel learned that it's hands were tied by the jihadi's strategic partners, for example Iran and France, to name just two.
Tactical supiriority didn't matter within the strategic framework. So Israel left the field after acheiving tactical objectives, and knowing the strategic objectives weren't met. The jihadis lost tactically, but survival was a manner of strategic success.

Israel has been working strategically, as have the jihadis.
Expect the next round to look for strategic victory, not just tactical.

--------

This same concept may apply to Iran Facism and Piracy.
Punishing tactical defeat doesn't matter to them.
Survival is their strategic objective.
Jihadis will declare defiant victory just for having survived.
So let's play at that level.
