Would Scotland or Wales want to break off and join the EU?

"Would Scotland or Wales want to break off and join the EU? Naney: They are in the EU - as is England. This is not about the break-up of the UK. The article is about changing the patron saint of England - St George - together with the St George Cross, the English flag. (Not to be confused with the Union Flag (a.k.a Union Jack)). From the article: But the Church of England is considering rejecting England's patron saint St George on the grounds that his image is too warlike and may offend Muslims. That might be true, but this is the Daily Mail – so I strongly suspect it’s been ‘sexed-up’ for its readership. Thankfully the article implies the Archbishop of Canterbury does not support this silly nonsense so maybe common sense will prevail after all and this idea dropped. Currently the CoE is currently threatened with schism over the ordination of gays in the church – I think it should concentrate on that matter. Cheers.

Hey, I'm American, so cut me some slack. I don't agree with changing the flag, the confederate flag flies around the south and I've heard of black troops showing it as part of southern culture. The muslims just have to learn that the past is the past. Maybe in british civics classes teachers should teach how the US and England got over two wars and how prosperous things turned out. Parents from the village will find it hard to forget some sheep that was killed by some Brit 100 years ago but if the kids can be persuaded to question what use is it to hold a grudge for so long...

This is typical of the Daily mail to drum up a fuss about nothing! Don't think England will be disappearing any time soon!

Perhaps you could re-introduce St. George as a multi-cultural hero who actually trained children as suicide bombers to kill the dragon.

Daily Mail = scare mongering reactionary propaganda. So it probably will survive as a newspaper, catering for: a) Those who don't have the time, inclination or capacity to research things for themselves b) People who like being reminded "how good it was in our day" c) The section of the population with a sub-par IQ d) Jonny Foreigners who want to have a bit of England bashing.

St george was Turkish anyway, so really is perfectly politically correct hero!

As if I'd seriously read a tabloid. They're all pretty bad, but the Mail succeeds in raising itself above the rest by it's sheer scaryness. It's the very epitome of the unthinking reactionary zealots that are lampooned in shows such as "Brass Eye"

So it's the Guardian then.
