"Britain is more optimistic about the prospects of buying the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter after crucial talks with U.S. officials over technology transfers went well, a British embassy spokesman said on Monday." http://today.reuters.co.uk/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=businessNews&storyID=2006-03-20T225321Z_01_N20287914_RTRUKOC_0_UK-ARMS-LOCKHEED-BRITAIN.xml

After all the back and forth on this I'll wait for the ToT and MoU to be signed and delivered before I celebrate.

Yes but I'd prefer a CTOL design of the delta deck/hull: http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a75/perfectgeneral/DreamCarrier.jpg A cat directs the aircraft enough that you can launch side by side. Maybe extra cats could be fitted in the landing area, but that is icing on the cake.

my last post may have left the impression that I'd advocate launching simultaneously. Hard to miss each other that way. Alternating take offs peeling off after clearing the deck was more what I had in mind.

Am I right in thinking that a presidential waiver would solve this at the stroke of a pen? Don't congress stop the president from doing anything they don't like?

I don't know how reliable Scots are, but "WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Deputy Defence Secretary Gordon England on Monday said he expects the United States and Britain to work out differences over technology transfer issues related to the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter by mid-June. "We are within 1 percent of one another," England told reporters after a speech to a Defence Security Cooperation Agency conference, in which he underscored the U.S. administration's commitment to strengthening cooperation with international partners." http://business.scotsman.com/latest.cfm?id=476282006

Although we need final confirmation, it's looking increasingly positive. It's good news both for the UK and the US.
