I don't know if I can come up with ten, but I'll try: 1. The British Empire. For better or worse (mustly better in my book) ruled the world for most of recent history. 2. Enlightenment: Great Britain ended many cruel and inhuman practices including slavery and sattee (Widow-burning in India). 3. Giving the world a language: English ranks ahead of Latin, Arabic, French or Russian as the language that most of the world can communicate with. Where would the Internet be without it? 4. Litterature: Shakespeare is still un-equaled in theater and he is just one of many. 5. The Commonwealth: Surely the way to go in decolonizing an empire.
