I'm proud to have British ancestors-does that count?

There are some who aren't, and I say: "More fool them", since unless they become foreign nationals, they will never truly have a home. Some are ashamed of the country due to the conduct of certain members of the British public abroad, but if you let this cloud you judgement of a country, especially one you live in, then you are no less a fool. Britain, and I do mean Britain, with all the English and the Welsh and Scottish, is a good place. While it could be better, it's what we make it, so if it's unpleasant, we only have ourselves to blame. Anyone for a bout of 'Rule Britannia'?

Regarding initial question I am immensly proud to be British, not always proud to proclaim my Northern Irishness however.

Ah, yes. I'd gone off down the road of Britishness, and since it's GB and Northern Ireland, I didn't want to ruffle any feathers. As long as you get rid of that fatherless Paisley, you're welcome.

Well, if he's trying to be as obnoxious as Paisley Senior, he's got one hell of a challenge there.

Considering Chicken Curry has replaced Fish & Chips as the national dish & yes even as war food rations........and the biggest home in Britain is owned by an Indian steel tycoon perhaps I would be concerned...??

Worried? Err, why? In the late 17th century, Britain invited a Dutchman to become King. Queen Victoria, as the Blackadder sketch goes, was half German and married a German. Tea certainly isn't native to these Isles, and neither are roast potatoes. Or, in fact, the potatoes used to make chips are an import too. The base attribute of Great Britain Plc is to take the good aspects (mostly) of any other country it comes into contact with and make it their own.

Ok if that doesn't get u worried, watch the next wave of De-Britainization- BOLLYWOOD yes- BOLLYWOOD. You will be subject to a 2.5 hour movie with a 15 minute break and Sean Connery will be replaced by Shahrukh Khan & Amitabh Bachan dancing to Indian songs. Thats enuff to throw in the towel.

I can't help but state my opinion here, that I think bollywood is complete rubbish. Telle often has complete dribble on, but bollywood films take the biscuit. I am proud of Britains past, but I am not sure I am proud of our current state.
