Join BAE Systems Maritime Submarine as a Principal Engineer - Power, and you'll contribute directly to the creation of the next generation of submarine.
In this pivotal role in our electrical design team you will need to draw on your knowledge of LV (<1kV) and DC Generation and Distribution Systems in order to contribute to the design and development of future submarines.
It's an exciting programme, and a fantastic opportunity to augment its success; however, it won't be easy, but if you have a proven track record of system or equipment design, and sufficient power systems knowledge it's a role that will give you real job satisfaction.
As Principal Engineer - Power, your main responsibilities will involve:
Power Systems Modelling and Analysis
Equipment Specification
System Design
Protection Design
Safety Justification
System testing and results analysis
Preparing design calculations to demonstrate designs meet performance requirements. i.e Load, Volt Drop, Fault Levels
Working across project groups to ensure designs meet the required operability, safety, security and supportability requirements
As Principal Engineer - Power, your skills and qualifications will ideally include:
Degree educated in a relevant field
Sufficient experience to be a Chartered Engineer, or working towards your Chartership
Experience within a: Submarine, Nuclear, Defence or Power industry
Technical report writing skills
Knowledge and experience in defence standards, whilst not essential, would be an advantage
A proven track record of system or equipment design
An in-depth understanding of at least one of the following areas:
Power system modelling; generators; switchgear; protection; power electronics
