blogs.telegraph.co.uk/finance/ambroseevans-pritchard/100001043/germany-declares-economic-war/ Some of the comments are less than kind, referring to UK as a financial alcoholic.

England is not a member of the EU; it is not even a sovereign nation. How can it be thrown out of the EU?

Zookeeper person.

England is part of the United Kingdom, it would not be "england" kicked out of the EU, but rather the "United Kingdom".

Besides, from what i've heard the majority of UK citizens don't want to be in the EU anyway.

It's not exactly the first time Steinbruck has spoken like this and suggesting his remarks on the eve of the German election mean the UK is going to be kicked out of the EU is silly.  According to the article you cited Herr Steinbruck got most of his facts wrong to begin with and a later article cites Germany's trend toward protectionism.  To be fair Herr Steinbruck has also recently insulted the Swiss as well.

I am ignorant on the leading issues of UK & EU union. Plenty of Brits seem to say good riddance. Why?

Many British people feel (and I agree with them) that the European Union will necessarily mean a sacrifice of sovereignty to the legislative bodies sitting in Brussels or Strasbourg.  Some are okay with this sacrifice, those disagreeing in Britain are not.

How likely is it that the UK (and India) could strengthen the Commonwealth nations into a more unified trading bloc?
