Subject: Rumor to Awful to Contemplate
swhitebull    8/2/2003 9:27:51 AM
I heard on Sean Hannity last night that Jimmy carter might be going to Liberia to see what he can accomplish. I thought the purpose of US intervention was to PREVENT a disaster, not cause it. swhitebull = and he can bring Jesse Jackson along with him (that way, he cant greenmail any other company or organization while he's there)

He's a PR figurehead until the Marines unload ashore. Then *they* will take over. For now we must play nice and pretend we'll respect the local's rules.

The Marines have no intention of unloading. Their going to sit pretty just off shore, giving air support and transport as needed. Most of the UN will be in static positions restoring stability, the Irish Battallion are the mobile reserve. Its only if things go really pearshaped that the marines will arrive. (BTW, the Irish communications are based on the Singar system, and is woefully unreliable. They dont have the resources to fix the problem, and I suspect that there will be serious comm problems between a airsupport asset and some of UN forces they'd be supporting. Comments?)
