AHOY,

SantaClaws; quote;

As for it working out in the radicals favor, I doubt it. He was their figure head and AQ recruits pledged loyalty specifically to him and his ideals. If we had taken him alive, imagine all the acts radicals would do to try and secure his freedom. Remember the good old days of beheadings to secure the release of Taliban prisoners? This is Osama Bin Laden, a much more important figure so they would be willing to go much further to achieve their goals.

IMO fighting fire with fire is only going to burn the earth up.

***

And I can't believe what I just heard, that Osama's body was buried at sea? That is as stupid as it gets. Remember all the photos of Poblo and still people did not believe.

IMO Osama knowing he would be killed one day, may have produced a video and given it to someone to hold, and on the video he well state that he has not been killed. And thus take all the air out of the U.S. victory.

"It?s troubling seeing some British news blogs by its readers saying thing like "this isn't the way to bring someone to justice"...."

i said only this morning that had this op been carried out by UKSF in the same manner, and Bin Laden was killed during the fire fight as happened, then you can bet that US reports would be up in arms over how the Brits failed to bring him in alive, and that it was a failure to carry out justice for the victims of 9/11.

However his death is indeed welcomed, but we must ask ourselves, was it worth all of this? In the grand scheme it changes very little. If anything it could work equally as well in the radicals favour. This could bring cause for the unity that they have been looking for and the British and US government have already issued calls for vigilance in anticipation of retaliatory attacks. news reports have already been quick to mention how now several groups seem to wish to make moves in order to form a more joint effort against the coalition and carry out domestic attacks on western soil whereas previously this had been a more independent endeavour. With Laden dead however Al Qaeda will not end, someone else will take his place and radical Islam will unfortunately continue to rot this planet.

However i do see this as coming as a welcome morale boost for coalition forces, and in some ways it will bring a degree of closure to the victims of the terror attack both in New York on 9/11 and in the London bombings on 7/7.

i have one question however, Bin Laden seemed to be the main focus of the US effort in the war on terror, now with him out of the way is there a distinct risk of a lack further will to participate in the war by the US people, will this take the wind out of their sails in terms of the US war effort as it were?

by the way "why Muslims in that country do whatever they want." thoroughly agree with this, the UK governments PC emphasis drive and other such left wing social ideas are crippling the nation, it is being handed over to radical minority groups for the sake of their civil liberties even when it is direct contradiction of the well being and interests of the moderate majority.

It has been widely held by US analysts, for years, that Bin Laden was not going to be taken alive. I really don't think anyone cares as long as we got the perpetrator.

As for it working out in the radicals favor, I doubt it. He was their figure head and AQ recruits pledged loyalty specifically to him and his ideals. There are still many people to kill and this isn't over. We still have Mullah Omar, Zawahiri, and various other leaders that need to be disposed of. The war isn't over by a long shot and our long term goal is still to stabilize Afgahn and secure the Pakistan border,

if only things were much simpler eh? this is one hell of a complex war.

In response to earlier questions regarding why SEALs....perhaps because they planned to bury at sea?  I wondered why it wasn't the Delta Force myself.

It's pretty naive to think that a man who is willing to hijack passenger liners, fly them into civilian buildings killing 3000+ people, brag about it, then go into hiding for 10 years while still planning to kill thousands of others, can be reasoned with. He wasn't going to come out and say, "I'm sorry please give me a fair trial." He went down shooting.

esmoore5    WikiLeaks: Osama bin Laden 'protected' by Pakistani security   5/2/2011 7:12:28 PM
"American diplomats were told that one of the key reasons why they had failed to find bin Laden was that Pakistan?s security services tipped him off whenever US troops approached. Pakistan?s Inter-Services Intelligence Directorate (ISID) also allegedly smuggled al-Qaeda terrorists through airport security to help them avoid capture and sent a unit into Afghanistan to fight alongside the Taliban. The claims, made in leaked US government files obtained by Wikileaks, will add to questions over Pakistan?s capacity to fight al-Qaeda." Newjarheaddean;

I have no dought  that UBL would have felt an arrest and trial was a remote chance for him. However my point is that the U.S. tactics i.e. record, like Getmo etc. would be the bases for UBLs fears if we are correct.

I'll agree to disagree on strategy for the GWOT. And 9-11 was a terrible day for america, lets get back on subject.

Back to the compound, I don't buy the reenactments I'm seeing with the seals fast roping into the yards then the seals running to the buildings. I say they fast roped on to the buildings and the helos hovered over head.

I was right about the videos i.e. President and company watching live feeds. Yet we citizens must hope we get to see a still photo. And I was also right about there being a UBL post mortum vedio but western media may not let us here that either. WHY?

Its not like anyone who would be a terrorist is not going to be able to get a hold of this tape.

esmoore5 thanks for all the links, way to go on the research for your thread. I have not read them yet but I well.

newjarheaddean    And another thing LOL   5/2/2011 8:38:14 PM
AHOY,

I was also wondering if UBL did not change his looks at all, why not show himself on video all these years.

And if the seals got all that much info i.e. material from compound then there ought to be seeing more raids soon or that would mean to me UBL was retired.

I also find it odd that we have reports of gun fire from the compound then helo has mechanical failure. I likely story.

But we most likely well get nothing but rumors for quite a while.

And the Pakistanis better hope the Indians don't come in with low flying helos, LOL. IMO U.S. where using jammers.

Normal SOP is to fast rope and secure the lower level first as well as cordon the building off so that the HVT cannot escape. It doesn't make sense to raid the top of the building first when they will simply exit through the bottom floor.
