Arty, everyone that is not (per this thread) a triple secret double probation ninja special operator and thus at the "cutting edge of battle" (probably with their ninja swords) is a REMF.

As a wise man (not me) once said, anyone behind me is a REMF (the basic meaning that REMF is a very subjective term, depending on who you talk to)

My take on things, is anyone other than Infantry is a REMF, with the possible exception of Combat Engineers and Armour.

Go to any REMF unit, be they Signals or Pet-Ops or whatever and you always hear the same stories about how "We go infront of the infantry and set up communication control points", or "We go infront of the tanks to set up their next petrol depot".... its all balls.

Ha Ha, this thread has been pretty farcical, however on a serious note the REME are really not REMF's, they provide support right up to the forward edge of battle.  below is a link to the REME homepage.

I have worked with former REME guys a lot over teh last few years and I have the utmost respect for them.  They are some of the best mechanics I have ever had the privelage to work with.

Dont know what happened with the double post to Mough!!!!

Yimmy, that seems to be true across nations as well.  It's interesting how many of these people seem to compare themselves to the infantry (only somehow better).  I've heard similar stuff from MP's, MI (if there were ever a bunch of REMF's MI seems to qualify), all the way to cooks.
Personally, I'd expand your "non" REMF list a bit.  For example, field medics, who really are with the infantry (and have that heavy firking aid bag).  Generally, I look at it like there are two kinds of soldiers.  The field soldier and the garrison soldier. (the latter generally being the REMF's in my book)

Understood.  I was a fire team leader in a rifle company.  As far as I was concerned my company commender and first sergeant were  REMFs.

I took a look at the REME link, pretty interesting.  I was trying to think of what its counterpart in the US army might be and I'm not there is one.  The US army seems to really specialize in a specific systems.  Is this sort of a generic if you need mech or electrical work done, they will do it?  If so, it seems like a great economy of man power.  Ah well, maybe thats for open for a different thread.

ok..

Back to the ninjas, egg jokes, and my SEAL is better than your SAS commentary.

Honestly, the REME is technically REMF's, as the definition of REMF is vague.
