Subject: USMC to Navy Seals
kil4h    9/15/2006 8:57:06 PM
Just curious but is it posible to join the Seal training course coming from the USMC? And the Rangers? The first ones as far as i know (USMC) are under the US navy command(i might be wrong thought) so there must be a way to join them, from the corps. The second case. the Rangers are under US army command so i would guess it is not possible. BTW i think both units are under SOCOM command, but i am not sure who commands who, and where i can join what. Thanks for the information in advance

why go SEAL's from the Corp, just go Force recon, or even better MARSOC?, but if you wanted to go to the SEALs, you could apply for a branch transfer, you cannot go straight from the Marines to the SEAL's I believe. the second part of tyour query is confusing, your asking about going to the Rangers from the corp? there are tabbed marines who have gone through Ranger school, but that is different to being a Ranger, as they say, the tab is a school, the scrool is a way of life, and again you would have to branch transfer, but that happens. by both units in SOCCOM, you mean the SEAL's and Rangers?...

Like Mough said, you cannot go from the USMC into the SEAL training pipeline without first leaving the Marine Corps and entering the US Navy.  Same deal about going from the USMC into a Ranger unit -- first have to get out of the USMC and into the Army.

This happened a long time ago so it may not apply anymore but I had been in a Very purple (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines) technical school that lasted six months.  Every so often it turns out that NSW had a running requirement for people in this MOS but it was difficult because people in this MOS were very very rare. A week before graduation the Master Chief who was in charge of the school took all the Marines aside (3) and told  us that there were certain duties required from our MOS that required certain people within the Naval community to have certain additional training, among these were the completion of what was then referred to as UDT/ SEAL (or BUDS nowadays) training.   We Marines then went to our Chief Master Gunnery Sergeant who was in charge of the Marine Detachment who told two of us to fail out of our last exam and for one guy to pass, we said eye eye and that’s what we did.

As far as Ranger school is concerned I'm pretty sure it used to be a requirement for the old ANGLICO training, now I believe its an option that’s probably never exercised.  However the Marine Corps is so cheap that I'm sure pretty sure they just rely now on their own indoc for the reborn (again) ANGLICO.

One More thing
The answer that Mough and Horsesoldier gave is probably the correct answer as far as probabilities are concerned (it ain't gona happen) but all I'm saying is never say never.

why go SEAL's from the Corp...
Haven't we had this discussion before? I remember it well... we all agreed that Navy SEALs were the best warriors on the planet. So, you would obviously go from the USMC to NSW because NSW is home to the best warriors on earth, Navy SEALs.
By the way, I haven't been here in a while, but what the heck is this: ???

Their new software or whatever does, um, take some getting used to . . .
I think that particular emoticon is the "Smiling Gopher" option.  Not sure what one would use it for, unless one was a gopher and overly happy about something . . .

A pink, smiling gopher...this seems a little too gay for a military website to have in my opinion :)
It might be a perfect response to Braddock's/Terrance's/Maverick's/whoever he is now's post.
