Subject: Devgru training/selection process
GOP    5/20/2006 6:56:44 PM
Sorry, this is not another "who's better trained" thread, but does anyone have any info on Devgru's training? I haven't found any open source info on their selection process, and was just curious if anyone knew anything about their training?

I couldn;t even guess. Not even sure of the process SEALs go through now. I was in when SEALs "did not exist" at least officially. UDT also existed at that time. So people coming in from civilian life were assigned to a UDT company right in bootcamp. They needed to be indoctrinated into the USN as well as be challenged. (Not sure the route for people coming in from the fleet) From their they went to Coronado Island for what is called BUDS now. That made them UDT, then from there they went on to bigger and better things. Although back then the SEAL Trident was not displayed in public. Under that path I can see a short 5 day SERE with the focus on the ERE part. I would never, repeat never take someone off the street and put them through even the most mild form of SERE before going on to BUDS or whatever is the first step. At that point they have no idea what the UCMJ is and what the code of conduct for a prisoner is. If they still go through bootcamp at GLAKEs they will have learned that and then a 5 day SERE is fine. I essentially went from boot camp to ET A school then to coronado for CI training which included SERE.

Dude SERE is a joke! It's so easy. Anyone that says it's hard is a pussy! Females can pass it... it's not hard! As for this discussion about DEVGRU... Youll never find out unless you go through it. Most Team guys don't know the exact process unless they have been a DEVGRU member.

I can only say that a someone I saw was in sere where he got venom in his eye and was booted out of training back to the airborne and then sent to the hospital.  From what I know which probably isn't any more than the rest of you's out there, devgru and the delta force are essentially parallels within different divisions of the military.  Obviously devgru would be more focused on water borne assaults and rescues because they're naval, but lets not forget that regular SF guys can go to advanced diving schools just like the seals and devgru people.  Generally people are already in the selection process for devgru or delta BEFORE they are even aware of it.  The people considered for the top echelon operations are seasoned soldiers who are in peak physical condition, have extensive combat experience, and are considered to be mature and ready to do the really insane ops.  These people are at the level of expert with nearly all operations activities.  ie- diving, halo, water demo, hostage rescue, and a variety of other things.  At that level of operation, most things are head stuff.  Not being a big tough guy or any of that crap.  They are looking for someone who doesn't attract attention, and can multitask to the extreme.  Oh, and they can truck 32 miles with the 120 mile pack in 95 degree heat just for fun.  That's just my opinion.
