Subject: An apology to Braddock
Old Grunt    1/20/2006 3:09:04 PM
I never thought that it would happen but it has. I guess you really do have influence with the Department of Defense, or at least the Department of the Army. Just a few weeks ago you were lamenting that the oportunity for you to be a part of the Special Forces community was just not available and how you would jump at the chance if it became possible. I guess some of your influential friends here at the Pentagon heard you because just a few days later the Army raised the age limit for enlistment to 40 in order to accomodate your wish! You are now eligible to enlist as an 18X!! Man, you must be beside yourself with joy! When do you plan on going down to the recruiting station? I mean, you have the required GT score, experience and skills right? And with all the mentoring that you've gotten from "Green Berets" passing the screening tests should be a breeze for you! After all, the best way to influence the "Green Beret" community is to get assigned to USASOC headquarters and they only pull their staff from the operational community which, of course, you already knew. From there you can move to USSOCOM headquarters and have direct influence across the services. A man of your ability should be able to get assigned to the Pentagon staff after only three or four years of operational time. I wouldn't be surprised if you have already been down to the station! I mean, after all, you have assured us all time and again that you are a man of integrity and that you don't lie. And I know that you wouldn't be so superficial, selfish, and petty as to put the well being of yourself and your family above the welfare of the Nation who so desperately needs you. I would expect a lesser man to try and give some lame excuse for why he wasn't going to take advantage of the fantastic opportunity that he had been given, but not you!! I am so excited for you that you have finally been given your chance to show the world what you are really made of! Please keep us informed of your progress, I'm sure the other posters on this board will join me in congratulating you on receiving which you have so many times stated you wished you could get!

Too right Albany! LongRifle&BigBro... Didn't mean to step on any toes. Living on the West Coast and being from a relatively recently arrived family (1917 on one side and the 1880's for the other) I tend to loose perspective on the Civil War, and how to this day the subject cuts close to the bone for many. I appologise for my flippancy and look forward to debating (put the roll of quarters down LR!) you seceshes on the History boards. Thanks, Cato

Braddock, How's your SF enlistment process going? It's been two weeks, so you should have some appointments set up for the various tests and physicals. What's the SF recruiter telling you?

I gave a fellow NCO from the MP realm my word that I would explore the possibilities of bettering myself through enlistment in a tactical MP unit. I believe a special force can be wherever your intellect and capabilities are willing to go to work. I have not been able to get a contact date from the conventional force soldier who is working as a SF recruiter who is 45 minutes away from my residence.

I am guessing a tactical MP unit is something like a SWAT team. I am glad you realized that any unit can be a special force. I am not trying to pressure you at all, but here is my advice if you are still interested in going SF. Instead of working with the Conventional force soldier acting as a SF recruiter, why not simply go into any US Army recruiting station and tell the recruiter you are interested in going into 18X. I can gaurantee you that they will be interested in you due to the expansion of SF. I know this is very simple advice, but it is a surefire way to get into the SF training pipeline. Again, not trying to pressure you, a tactical MP unit sounds pretty cool.

"...knowing that after all the statements of superior ability, intellect, and desire he had made, if he didn't follow through he would lose every last shred of credibility that he possessed and be branded a dung-verbalizing liar of the worst sort for the rest of his life."

Yes, I know this is the internet and he has never talked to you guys in person, but every guy wants to protect his reputation (at least I would), and he might actually go through with this. I read your post that you are 2-3 in line to go back to the teams, would you want Braddock on your team (because you pressured him)? Stranger things have happened, I promise. I say let him go to the tactical MP unit, and let him be proud of it. It is truly an accomplishment (seriously)

Old Grunt You calling me out sir? I do work across the street from a U.S. Army recruiting station. Can any recruiter help out with a 18x candidate?

Old Grunt I'll be successful at either place. In the guard, the recruiter is at the armory. I just expected the SF community to let one of their own recruit from their personal armory, as some recruiters don't like to push the SF agenda.
