Subject: An apology to Braddock

I never thought that it would happen but it has. I guess you really do have influence with the Department of Defense, or at least the Department of the Army. Just a few weeks ago you were lamenting that the oportunity for you to be a part of the Special Forces community was just not available and how you would jump at the chance if it became possible. I guess some of your influential friends here at the Pentagon heard you because just a few days later the Army raised the age limit for enlistment to 40 in order to accomodate your wish! You are now eligible to enlist as an 18X!! Man, you must be beside yourself with joy! When do you plan on going down to the recruiting station? I mean, you have the required GT score, experience and skills right? And with all the mentoring that you've gotten from "Green Berets" passing the screening tests should be a breeze for you! After all, the best way to influence the "Green Beret" community is to get assigned to USASOC headquarters and they only pull their staff from the operational community which, of course, you already knew. From there you can move to USSOCOM headquarters and have direct influence across the services. A man of your ability should be able to get assigned to the Pentagon staff after only three or four years of operational time. I wouldn't be surprised if you have already been down to the station! I mean, after all, you have assured us all time and again that you are a man of integrity and that you don't lie. And I know that you wouldn't be so superficial, selfish, and petty as to put the well being of yourself and your family above the welfare of the Nation who so desperately needs you. I would expect a lesser man to try and give some lame excuse for why he wasn't going to take advantage of the fantastic opportunity that he had been given, but not you!! I am so excited for you that you have finally been given your chance to show the world what you are really made of! Please keep us informed of your progress, I'm sure the other posters on this board will join me in congratulating you on receiving which you have so many times stated you wished you could get!

I have not read this thread, only Arty's last post, but I think the best song about combat would be Motorheads 1916.

Born in Saigon by Charlie Daniels Band was pretty good as well. The Green Beret song is tops with me though.

Fighting soldiers from the sky Fearless men who jump and die The greatest song about combat ever. Bar none which has what to do with anything up to this point on the thread?

Fighting soldiers from the sky Fearless men who jump and die The greatest song about combat ever. Bar none "which has what to do with anything up to this point on the thread" It just says a lot about how a song can articulate the toughness and tenacity that is very much a part of American warfare. We have a lot of military victories that are worth singing about.

he may have been but the Casca novels were great good fun to read. if you haven't run across them go dig one up. avoid the one later italian attempt to extend the series as it was bloody awful. so awful it's the 2nd book i've trashed in 46 years to prevent some other poor reader from exposure to utter tripe.

"It just says a lot about how a song can articulate the toughness and tenacity that is very much a part of American warfare" Personally, I find it rather bemusing how in all those American internet videos from Iraq always have heavy metal music in the background and focus on firepower. There was a documentary shown on the BBC shortly after the Iraq war, showing American mechanised infantry at the start of the war, their unit song was "We Will Rock You", by Queen, with all of them head-banging along to it in the back of their Bradley for the camera. By the end of the documentary several months into the war the music was long gone and the soldiers were very eager to be leaving. I don't really have a point, but if there is one, its that music may be "cool", but it has nothing to do with warfare. Although some of those tracks listed are very good, the beter ones are singalongs for moral, not heavy metal in the background.

well got a bit curious about braddocks claim to have a new book coming out. there is indeed an "american warfare 2 the counter terror primer" published by a guy named terrance jones by publishamerica. now of course publishamerica turns out to be one of those vanity press outfits with a rather sleazy rep even for one of those. apparently no author has broken through 5000 copies sold and the average "sales" would be in the dozens of copies. you also cannot get these books at any bookstore. http://www.absolutewrite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10211 gives a rundown on publishamerica's virtues etc.

http://www.strategypage.com/messageboards/messages/12-3930.asp hmm national guard sgt's must move in some pretty rarified altitudinal circles i guess. the only terrance jones (arng)that pops out on google is a 20 year old student from down south. aside from that t jones seems to lead a life of obscurity.
