Subject: Misinformed Anti-War sites
Kirkzzy    4/20/2011 3:31:33 AM
So, I guess you could say I am Anti-War (but im not f***ing retarded like some of these people).. but some of this is really, really f***ing annoying and is getting out of hand. Some of these sites I am looking at are pulling complete bull out of their asses. Example: http://www.peaceconvergence.com/2011/02/15/call-on-govt-to-cancel-talisman-sabre-to-save-for-disaster-recovery/ "to an intensive 300,000 strong military training exercise." Where did they get 300,000 troops from? Seriously some of this is unbelievable..

Just lost a post I wrote in response to this article, will try again.

1. How does a flood hurt a reef in the middle of an ocean? In addition, any live fire in the exercise is likely to have previously been fired at so how could more damage occur?
2. No it wouldn't, from memory there were only something like 1000 troops involved in the cleanup just after the floods anyway, plus it would probably cost a lot in money, goodwill to our partners and in military preparedness if the exercise was cancelled.
3. Actually, $27 Billion (with a big 'B') according to the Department of Defence. h*tp://www.defence.gov.au/budget/10-11/pbs/2010-2011_Defence_PBS_full.pdf
4. What is the public support for the ADF defending the country? Is there a poll on how many would prefer the Army to be carrying out disaster relief instead of defending the country?
5. Yes, well no one wants to pay more tax.
6. I don't see how cutting an F-35 that wont be bought and paid for until 10 or 15 years from now will save 110 million now, it might save 110 million in 15 years time though.
7. Whats that got to do with Australia? If anything them cutting their budget means we should spend more to compensate.

Interesting point of view these people have....
