Subject: New Identity for a new Decade
BLUIE006    12/19/2009 9:46:08 PM
While writing a paper recently, I began thinking about our national symbols and identifiable characters.I decided that these symbols may have a large impact on our identity psyche. Historically the kangaroo has always been a definitive symbol for Australia, a strong powerful animal that has a few different varieties but is essentially the same species. Somewhat like our traditional identity or stereotype (White Australia). With new multiculturalism and greater cultural diversity in our society, I motion that perhaps the Platypus is a more appropriate symbol for modern Australia. A single animal made up of bits and pieces from all over, from vastly different species. No one is really sure what it is or where it came from, but they know it is not dangerous unless provoked. # It can’t be defined by outward appearance, it can only be defined when you look inside it. Thoughts? Merry Christmas & Happy New Year...to all
