CSIRO come up with stuff like this and yet this Govt cans their budget - welcome to the smart country. ---------------------------------------------------- Manned missions to Mars could be broadcast live Posted 2 hours 28 minutes ago Updated 2 hours 3 minutes ago * Map: Canberra 2600 A breakthrough by the CSIRO could help US space agency NASA beam back live video from any future manned missions to Mars. CSIRO researcher Dr John Bunton has received a major NASA award for designing a processor called a 'beamformer'. Dr Bunton says NASA's largest antenna is not sensitive enough to receive pictures from Mars. But he says the beamformer could solve the problem by creating a live video link from Mars. "The best way we can think of doing it at the moment is to build a lot of smaller antennas and add the signals from each antenna together," he said. "So the job of the beamformer is to take the signals from all the antennas and add them together correctly so that they generate one output."

Isn't this the same organization that just catalogued over 100 new species of sharks and rays?
