...yep.... probably zigged when I should have zagged....

They really need to put in a proper forum on this place, this dodgy blog format is annoying.

I don't have exact figures on frame fatigue, however, as they were only used by 2SQN in the role of cartographic surveying during the final few years upto their retirement in June 1982, I'd say it was a case of being surplus to requirements.

The Pig was bomb trucking since 1973 and the Miracle was doing same (the latter half of the fleet anyway) and the Bugs were a half dozen years away. Wouldnt seem much point keeping another frame in service for a job that could be handled by other types. Note that the R/F-111C could do the recon job and the RAAF Bugs were optioned with a nose cone palletised camera system. This was, however, never actually taken on as it would have meant the forgoing of the cannon.

I'm a bit too lazy to look it up on other sources right now, but If wiki is to be believed, the remaining fighter variant Mirage's were converted to the Attack version in the 70's. I'm sceptical though, because from the dates listed, it would leave the RAAF without a dedicated fighter force for quite a few years.

Nice picture, this was a wise purchase and the modified Hornet (right?) will serve you well!
Interesting subsequent discussion about the colors and how they work in pictures and to the naked eye, though I do not know much about colors in light transmission I think I understand that its colors are consistant to pilots' naked eye at high altitude (and ground)?

3 @ turnkey
No 4 should be done if not turnkey by now
No 5 would have started and also be well on the way
