Subject: The Cross and the crescent

The football game between Switzerland and Turkey is a perfect example of all that separates the culture of nations under the cross (CH)with those under the crescent (TR). Turkish behaviour was sickening and further evidence of their anti-Western 'value' system. Still want to know why Europeans don't want you in the EU?

To start with Turks are not from Middle-Eastern culture. Culturally Turks are most closest to Greeks and Bulgarians. Secondly a person is not culturally violent. A person himself is violent or not. This kind of generalisations will mostly lead you into wrong conclusions.

I disagree, the majority of our people feel more related to the Middle East. Go ask them on the streets what they think about Europe/Israel or the US. And violence definitely has cultural roots too.

I do not know where you have been but I doubt it was Turkey. Majority of Turkey supports joining EU. And most of the Turks I know feel related to Mediterranian cultures.

Soccer players always brawl. Not I said soccer not football-get it right. Soccer is where people kick a ball around. Football is where people memorize dozens of complicated evolutions, buckle on plastic armor, go onto a grassy field and run into each other for about two hours. It is the game in which the Oregon Ducks play- go ducks-kill the beavers.
