Subject: The Cross and the crescent
Hugo    11/17/2005 10:48:13 AM
The football game between Switzerland and Turkey is a perfect example of all that separates the culture of nations under the cross (CH)with those under the crescent (TR). Turkish behaviour was sickening and further evidence of their anti-Western 'value' system. Still want to know why Europeans don't want you in the EU?

Well, I guess the author is "Burak Turna" (and Orku Ükar?). He wrote "Metal Storm" what was discussed on another board. The new book may be "Üçüncü Dünya Savasi". You can search for it in the internet. The story is discussed in the german press. And you can imagine: not very friendly. By the way. There are hooligans everywhere and in every country. But normaly they are condemded by society as a whole. The problem is that at least parts of the turkish press are fine with the hooliogans and argue that swiss sportsmen or Mr. Blatter are responsible. I am sorry with your team. There would have been fine sportive events in 2006 here in Germany, with the turkish soccer team and many turkish fans celebrating a sportive fight for the world championship.

"Talk about cultures germany killed how many jews in ww2? Or how spain killed most of natives in new world? If you want to talk about sport look at britain and nothing to say. Yeah culture is a big problem i do agree. One incident does not matter when their is history to talk about". Turkish history is not as "clean" as you are teached to believe by the nationalistic Turkish education sytem.

"RE:Illegal? 11/18/2005 7:23:20 AM Recently, an Amenian community leader in Turkey was forced to leave the country because he complained that Turkey didn't do enough (read anything) to acknowledge its genocide against his people. You see, that is the difference between Germany/Spain and Turkey. Add to this and you still persecute your minorities". I absolutely agree with you as a Turk and I don't care if some Turks call me a traitor (LOL) because of this. We are a bunch of uncivilised, ultra-nationalist barbarians compared to the West.

I have seen noone before who ever insulted himself. I know noone whoever visited Turkey who said Turks are uncivilised, ultra-nationalist barbarians. So logical conclusion is you are not a Turk. More than that you never have been in Turkey before. Possibly you are a racist, who thinks that imposing yourself as a Turk is a funny way to insult them. Let me say, that is very childish. Have fun. But do not expect me to take you seriously.

"We are a bunch of uncivilised, ultra-nationalist barbarians compared to the West." Thats not right though. You guys are so close to an ideal of what we think society should be, and thats what pisses us off. You have only a couple problems we cannot abide and you are stubborn for your own good sometimes. Sooner or later you will have your freedom. With the increasing trend of globalization the Turkish Government cannot continue its stubborn stance forever, maybe a few decades but not forever. When you are ready to grant your people true freedom I am sure things such as EU membership will open up.

I might even settle there if the economy keeps improving and democracy truly establishes. OK, I exaggerated, but you have to know that I also criticize other countries for their wrongdoings. I make no exceptions, I say what I believe is true and people generally don't like that of course. I have come across many idiotic, nationalist barbarian Greeks on forums for example. And they hate me too because I tell them what they are.. Like I said truth hurts :) Pars, Let me give you a very simple example what I hate about my countrymen... Almost all Turks got crazy about the Swiss booing our national anthem at the match in Bern against the Swiss. But those hypocrites do the same at every match in Turkey. Do you remember the match against the Greeks in Turkey, our fans were booing the Greek national anthem, but the Greeks didn't start a war! And the last match against the Swiss, the way coach Fatih Terim, our officials (!) players and spectators acted was disgusting. The Turkish media is openly lying about the whole event, which shows that we're not much better than some Middle Eastern countries. But they can't fool the world, believe me.

Pars    Fooball fanatism is from European culture.   11/19/2005 6:10:09 PM
It is football. There are many fanatic football spectators in Turkey. Football fanatism is not a part of Middle-East culture; it is part of European culture. In fact in Middle-East they do not take football very seriously. And British spectators are worse than our spectators. What has happened is ugly. But FIFA will give a rightful penalty. So nothing to be exagrated.

I was trying to point out that violence/fanaticism in general is much more common in Middle Eastern culture. People are much more intolerant, they will start fighting you very easily. If you were to curse at me on the street, I wouldn't try to beat you up like a lunatic. At most I would curse back and walk away (unless you attacked me). Self-control and self-criticism are unknown concepts for these people. There is so much to say about these issues.

Why do you curse someone to start with? In all my life, I have never been in a fight. Maybe you have a talent to iniate fights.

You didn't understand, obviously. On the contrary, I never fight and was trying to explain you how I am against fanaticism and violence..
