Subject: Terrorists Attack Russian School - Hold 400 Hostage Including 200 Children
Roman    9/1/2004 4:00:57 AM
These Muslim terrorists (I have no doubt it is them despite the fact that it has not been confirmed yet) are complete scum. From CNN: http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/europe/09/01/russia.school/index.html Attackers seize Russian school Wednesday, September 1, 2004 Posted: 3:49 AM EDT (0749 GMT) A girl is hurried away from the scene. RELATED • Moscow suicide bomber kills 9 • Explosions led to Russia crashes YOUR E-MAIL ALERTS Chechnya (Russia) Russia or CREATE YOUR OWN Manage alerts | What is this? MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) -- Armed attackers have seized a school in a town in southern Russia, and Russia's ITAR-TASS news agency says about 400 people, including 200 children, are being held. The Interfax news agency, citing Ismel Shaov, a regional spokesman for the Federal Security Service, said there were 17 attackers, both male and female, and the gang included some who were wearing explosive belts. Wednesday's seizure took place on the first day of the Russian school year, in the town of Beslan in North Ossetia, Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said. Video of the scene from Russian Television showed Russian forces stationed near the school, some of them behind a tank, as the sound of gunfire could be heard. A young girl and an older woman were hurried to safety by the armed forces. Beslan is located 19 miles (30 km) north of Vladikavkaz in southern Russia, which borders the troubled Russian republic of Chechnya. The seizure of the school comes a day after a female suicide bomber killed nine people and herself, and wounded 51 others when she detonated a bomb outside a subway station in northeastern Moscow. (Full story) Authorities did not immediately say if the female bomber was Chechen. The bombing marked the second major terrorist attack on Russia in a week, following the near simultaneous attacks on two Russian airliners by what authorities believe were two Chechen women suicide bombers. Eighty-nine people died in the crashes. Female Chechen suicide bombers are known in Russia as "black widows." Authorities have said traces of the explosive hexogen were found in the wreckage of both planes. Hexogen, when mixed with nitroglycerin, forms a plastic explosive similar to C4 and has been used by Chechen rebels in attacks on Russian soil in the past. Chechen rebels -- who refused to take part in Chechen elections held Sunday and vowed to take their fight to Russian soil -- have denied responsibility. But many Russian politicians are already linking them to Tuesday's suicide bombing, calling it revenge for the elections in which a Kremlin-backed candidate won the presidency. Russian troops have battled separatist guerrillas in Chechnya since 1994. In October 2002, about 50 Chechen rebels seized a Moscow theater and took about 800 hostages. After a three-day siege, Russian forces stormed the building using gas, killing most of the rebels and 120 hostages.

I was reading one of our Indian editorials on the Beslan massacre http://us.rediff.com/news/2004/sep/06swadas.htm and it made me wonder -- why are there people defending such monstrous attrocities? Where is the decency?? I can't believe it's the result of random ignorance, or even naivete. To me, such denials and deflections are acts of selfishness. The rights of the perpetrators always seem to take precedence over the rights of the victims. I was watching the EU issue their demand to the Russians on why the deathtoll was so high, and my jaw just dropped. Uhhhh, hulloooo, maybe you oughtta be putting that question to the Chechen guerrilla leaders instead, since they're the ones who train these nutbags?? What the hell's happening to Europe these days -- why've their morals been steadily going down the toilet? Their unending big-mouthed badgering of everyone else while living under the shelter of NATO reminds me of a loud-mouthed spoilt brat ragging on his parents while living under their roof. You don't respond to an attrocity of this magnitude by telling people to hurry up and negotiate with these crooks. I don't care if these slimeballs were fighting to Save The Whales or seal the Ozone Layer -- when you do something this nasty, your name is mud. Nobody should be looking to turn this into an opportunity to renew negotiations. That's why there's a universal principle of not negotiating with hostage-takers, because anytime you do so, whether it's out of compassion or whatever, you're only condemning future victims by motivating the next would-be hostage-takers. Why do self-styled human rights activists reserve their main clamor against democratic states, and restrain themselves the most when it comes to criticizing the unaccountable non-state terrorist outfits? If these idiots regard the terrorists to be equal parties in a negotiating process, then why don't they place equal onus for accountability on these so-called "representatives of the popular struggle"?

A double standard too. You can bet if a native-born British national had something like that in the press he'd be in the defendant's dock right now. Sad, but it seems to me that the House of Commons is slowly turning into the best legislature muslim special interests can buy.

Sentinel "Or better yet, maybe someone should simply introduce him to God. Figuratively and literally" I think the Russians are having similar thoughts. But don't you think he'd be taking the DOWN elevator and not the up one??!!

I'm sick and tired of these comments from the muslim community. I live in England,i'm english and im proud to be english. I hate it when these muslim people come over to our country and start shouting/ranting like this cleric has. If i was Tony Blair i would kick him out of the country. Along with everybody else who shows the same feelings.I'm personally sick and tired of muslims. I would send them all back to their countries origin. If they don't like England then leave.

Britain should stand up far more firmly to people like this cleric. No excuse for saying comments reg killing women/children is acceptable. To say that he believes the killing of the women/children was by russian troops is just pathetic. He is wrong, stupid, blind and fanatical and should be punished by kicking him out of the country.

Darth Squirrel    RE:Putin blasts U.S. on terror stance   9/9/2004 8:45:33 PM
Too bad for the Russians, Putin and Co. are at least as hypocritical as the West. And I'm only talking about this specific moment in time - I'll just forget about how the Russians, eager to destabilize the West during the Cold War, supported international terrorism with great gusto. As for today, please direct your attention to the nuclear plant in Iran. Enough said? When a few hundred kids blow up, suddenly Putin finds some scruples (at least for the cameras) - where will he be when Las Vegas gets smoked by a bomb made in Iran? If Putin was serious about terrorism, he'd level Iran's military and nuclear infrastructure tomorrow, even if if took a nuclear weapon or ten to do it. Everyone knows the Chechen SOBs get Iranian insistence, with Tehran arranging weapon shipments, training, and intelligence for the "freedom fighters." Of course, it is all done by proxy, in order to continue the charade of the Russian agreement with Iran that the latter will NOT interfere in Chechnya. The crazy thing is, the FSB has known of this all along, its just that Iranians pay pretty good for Russian nuclear tech, subs, and missile systems. Putin already offered his "solution" to Russia's terrorist problem - even further strengthening of federal power and authoritarian police practices - he waxed secure over the old Soviet Union. This crap about "we will strike terrorists anywhere in the world" is a Russian version of As The World Turns, made for public consumption. Kind of like Bush's "we will depose all nations that sponsor terrorism."

I'm sure you can understand Putin's anger at the US for granting a Chechen separatist safe haven. The neo-conservatives still see post-Soviet Russia as a threat and have supported the Chechen cause in the past.

Roman, CBS, NBC, ABC & CNN all have liberal anchors and no dissenting conservative opinions. I only listen to the BBC about an hour a week, but they seem to have the same slant. The American public broadcasting; PBS television and NPR radio think that the full spectrum of opinion runs from the left all the way to far left. Fox News has many (but not all) conservative anchors, with moderate and libral dissenting opinions. I find that they have a more balanced presentation of the news. They refer to terrorists as terrorists and not by euphamisms.
