Also from Wiki:

The first two vessels were built by HDW at Kiel , while the remainder were built at Mazagon Dock Limited (MDL), Mumbai under a technology transfer agreement. The ships were commissioned between 1986 and 1994.

No mention here of compatibility or outfit at the time of build. Presumably this will require a refit....

Sorry formatting issues...
AFAIK, the SUT is NOT compatible with US tubes...

Bottom-Line: As built the Indian SSK were not US-compatible.  To become US compatible, there will need to be a refit, to allow use of Sub-Harpoon.  Who is going to do it?

Well... keep in mind that in your last post you where talking about the tubes in the German tubes being different than in the USA tubes... I really only focused in that point because I was dismissing all the other ones.

These missiles are being bought for a sub that was designed to carry them and with a major USA defense contractor involved as well as the Virginia outfit all providing technical assistance as part of the price at a time when the subs is also being up-graded which I do not think it is not a coincidence...

I think that it is stretching it to believe that Harpoons fire control is not being taken care off. It would Kefflerian type logic to think that will fumbled.

"talks underway with HDW for additional upgrades" - The Indian subs will be upgraded. The Harpoon will be integrated by HDW, Boeing and the Virgina out-fit. The tech support was included in the price of the Harpoon.

You can't be thinking that people who really, really know what they are doing are going to fumble the installation... like I said, that is the way that Keffler's mind works and leads to enless posts on his part when people like me fail to take him seriously.

IF the DDRO takes the lead on the refitting, troubles loom....India doesn't have a great track record.  Bechtel oversaw(sees) technology transfer...but the lead agency may be indigenous.  So, right now, I don't see who is taking design lead & construction oversight.

Certainly, I'm sure the Indian Navy has contemplated the necessity of refitting, the actuality of it is another matter.

The Indians are retrofitting things all the time. They use Israelis and others.

They have had bad experience with the Russians and that has opened up certain things for us... you really can't think we will drop the ball on an arms order that has the State Department's influence floating around it like this one does.

You might think you know the boats but you do not.

I hope you aren't trying to pass off the USS Blueback (both photos) as a SERVING or modern boat, you joke.

The Barbels are decommissioned and never handled Harpoons. Or didn't you KNOW that?

Indian procurement is…. interesting by western standards. Interesting being the most polite word that comes to mind. Plenty of countries have bought shiny new toys with zero thought as regards compatibility, India too is guilty of this plenty of times.
It's a rather odd purchase this, too small an amount to even be considered anything other than a one off threat? 12 missiles does not constitute a weapons system. 10 training shots.. Its an odd purchase.
Perhaps this is a stop gap, some kind of small threat against Chinese naval aggression till India can get its own carrier strike force to a state of readiness.
