On Watch    RE:4 month conscription in the danish army?!   6/7/2005 12:02:46 PM
>>is four months even enough for basic training to be completed?<< 4 months is an eternity! Especially with a dedicated DI ragging your ass 24/7! I'd bet that the Danes have developed a first rate basic training program! U.S. MARINES The 13-week process that transforms a young person with the courage to succeed into a mature, highly disciplined, and fully capable Marine. U.S. ARMY Basic Combat Training (BCT) is a nine-week training course (not including the "Reception" week) where recruits go through the process of becoming full-fledged Soldiers. Throughout the process, you will learn new rules, learn to trust yourself and understand what it means to be an Army of One. U.S. NAVY Basic Training, called Boot Camp in the Navy, is an eight-week program that transforms civilians into Sailors. The training takes place at the Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, Illinois. U.S. COAST GUARD Recruit Training an eight-week training program at the Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May, New Jersey. Unlike the other Armed Services, the Coast Guard’s men and women are trained for active roles in Law Enforcement, Search and Rescue, Aids to Navigation, Marine & Environmental Safety, Ice Patrol, Recreational Boating Safety, and more. And then there's the U.S. AIR FORCE Air Force Basic Military Training is a short but intense six weeks of challenging instruction. But by the time they graduate, trainees will be thoroughly familiarized with basic Air Force knowledge, history, customs and courtesies, and laws. Also included: how to be the most unmilitary whiney bunch of mollycoddled underachievers in all of the US Service Branches! Let's Roll

OW: which is the reason why USAF never has a recruiting problem. the AF guys i worked with were a good group, but, they were ALOs, ETACs and the occasional CCT.

Schackleford    Update   6/29/2005 10:44:48 AM
Update: According to Defence officials, the HBU program is considerably more succesfull then could be imagined. Before the program was implemented, it was estimated that between 10 to 12% of the conscripts under the new program would choose to stay in the military and become professional soldiers. However, 16% has choosen to do so. The Army plans to bring the number of soldiers that can serve abroad up from roughly 1000 to a maximum capacity of 2000 soldiers in the following years. Everything indicates that the ambitious program is going according to the plan.

This is a case of lowering expectations enough - they started out with hoping 25%.

One of my wifes relatives was drafted for these 4 month - in spite of having a back problem. He has fortunately been cashiered now. This confirms my worst fears: The jerks try to train people to something like combat standard. This is due to human physiological limitation out of the question, but this does not affect the small minds of conscription trainers, that hven't thought a thought in 150 years.

Oh well you see, that gives them enough time to sail down and pilliage the coasts of Europe. They spend the rest of the year writting sagas with bloodcurdling metaphors.

thats a logical thing. because your country is in EU.you don't need to defend it your in the middle of europe.you are in a safe place(if germany starts a war again :)) but we must defend our country(turkey) becuse we're fighting aganist PKK(which is making propogandas from DANISH TV(i mean you are helping them to kill our soldiers every day.everyday they hunt our soldiers from mountains.). +we're living beside middle east. +there is a possible USA attack(right now we're allies but CIA can change anything at anytime) these are some reasons for us to train our soldiers for 18 months. i don't understand why you're angry with that are preparing an invasion on a muslim country :)

Kane, does every post of yours have to concern your paranoia that we all want to pillage Turkey? Whats the dominant language in the Danish army? I don't suppose it's English? I wouldn't mind 4 months of fun. :D
