I wonder if Denmark could stop a USSR naval inasion launched at day 1 of a conventional 3rd World war. I have read somewhere some time ago that USSR had a corps in the Baltics for that mission.

"The Soviet Armoured assault through Europe is another matter. But the Jutland Division (armoured) would have moved down into Northern Germany an joined up with the British 7th Armoured and a German Mech Div in a corps to meet the WARPACT forces."
- TAC A correction from a prev post. It is of course not the Brit 7th Armoured, but the UK Mobile Force - a 14.000 strong rapidly deployable unit. On the other hand there were, if necesary, two US Marine Bdes in general reserve for that sector. A fact that DIIS interpreted as NATO planning an amphib assault in the Baltic states. LOL!

Another thing is that the German division was the 7th PzGre, the largest of the German divisions. I don't recall wwhat I've written before; but the crucial point wass to defend danish air space, as the shortes route from east Germany/Poland was over the southern part of Jutland. In my informed view that would have been very very costly for the WAPA. The Danish Belt would have been like Iron-bottom Sound off Guadalcanal - part of it the oblitterated Danish Navy. I wouldn't have been pestering the Swedes today, as I would have been fried in a bunker. Control over Danish territory would have taken about three weeks. The country would have been occupied in a couple of days. From the Nato point of view the important thing would have been: 1. The bases in East Anglia would have surved, thus american reinforcement would have continued to be flown in. 2. The Russian Baltic Fleet would have remained that: Baltic But this country would have been destroyed.
