| East Germany Lives On - in the Carribean!
In June 1972 Fidel Castro gave the German Democratic Republic (i.e., East Germany) and island, the Cayo Blanco de Sur. The East Germans accepted the gift, and even raised a monument on the island, which was renamed Cayo Ernesto Thaelmann, after a German communist politician killed by Hitler.
