Subject: Abdullah- Conservative? Reformer?
sanman    8/1/2005 9:36:52 PM
So how is Abdullah going to be a conservative and a reformer at the same time? http://www.guardian.co.uk/saudi/story/0,11599,1540758,00.html Who's going to stay loyal to the kingdom, without the welfare state?

He will begin slowly turning into a reformer. He hates the muttawas, and he's an enemy of the Sudairis, so he has to take this chance and kick them out and change the country into a more modern and civilized nation.

From my experience he is a pragmatic. He is on the conservative side, but feels the muttawas are a problem for the country. He was striving to limit their power and to reform them. He readily realizes that the country cannot survive without Western support and assistance. He will work toward greater self-sufficiency, but rely on the West until the day comes.

"He readily realizes that the country cannot survive without Western support and assistance. He will work toward greater self-sufficiency, but rely on the West until the day comes." So basically he will nod his head yes to the world about everything until his nuclear program builds enough nukes to adequately deter any Western aggression. Then what?
