We would have to conduct genocide on the Muslims, or they would conduct it on us. You leave no room for anything else. Inflaming the Muslims by nuking Mekkah and Madinah would be worse that the inflaming of US citizens when Pearl Harbor was bombed. Look at what that got the Japanese. It is a bad idea! Stop promoting genocide!

If they set a nuke off in the US I am sure we would consider hitting these cities. In fact as a spinoff of MAD we should make it well known.

MAD worked because we were threatening one country (the USSR) and they were threatening us. In their own way, the Sovs were quite sane and saw nuclear war made no sense. If you nuke Mekkah, you aren't just pissing the Saudis off. You are pissing off about a third of the world population. Once you start down that road, you had better plan on genocide of all Muslims, because every one of them will be a potential and probable terrorist. You lose those folks who might otherwise help us hunt down the bin Ladin's of the world. Take a look at the terrorist scoreboard, and you will see about half of bin Ladin's key people are dead or captured. That wasn't cause we are omnicient, it's because in a lot of cases, some Muslim gave them up.

If Mecca and Medina were nuked, IMO it would not be by the USA or Israel, but by radical Islamists who wanted to unite the entire Muslim world against the West. This is something I'd expect Usama Bin Laden to do, not Bush or Blair or Sharon. I firmly believe there are Muslim extremist groups crazy enough to try this, it'd be sort of an Islamic version of the Russian plot in Tom Clancy's book "Red Storm Rising."

I propose this.. while the subject is being talked about.. The US president of Congress states that if any US City is ever nuked and evidence provides it comes from an Islamic sourse the 3 holiest Moslem cities will be nuked in response. Now.. that makes some nutjob radical think twice if his move will cause the destruction of his shrines. Secondly.. I think there would be a huge change of attitude in Saudi Arabia on the idea of radical islam and lookin the other way.. now we know this will never happen.. its our western christian culture and ideas that would prevent us from playin an eye for an eye... but.. its a thought worth throwing out there. Now the old Russians would do this ! And I live in one of the US Cities that is first on the hit list for Al Qaeda.

Only Desertmole has got it right: it would drive pretty much ALL Muslims into the filthy arms of the Enemy. I understand that the Enemy (ie, Islamist terrorists) are acting out the darker side of the Koran and attempting to satisfy their need for blood letting. But despite them claiming to be the 'only' practitioners of 'true' Islam, we should always view them as the pests to be separated from the corn, not treat the cornfield as a whole as an enemy. The Enemy has a clear propaganda advantage over the western world. Don't give them ANYTHING to use as an excuse or pretext.
