Subject: Saudi tourism

Feb 26, 2004 6:42 pm US/Pacific WASHINGTON (AP) Rep. Anthony Weiner, a frequent critic of United States policy toward Saudi Arabia, said Thursday that the Middle East country's new visa policy outlined on a tourist Web site should be quickly condemned by American officials. The Web site, promoting a new Saudi program to offer tourist visas to encourage more foreign visitors, lists four groups not entitled to tourist visas, including "Jewish People." The Saudi government has traditionally only issued travel visas for employment, Hajj pilgrimages, and other visits with official sanction. In addition to Jews, the Web site by the Supreme Commission for Tourism also says it will refuse visas to anyone with an Israeli passport or a passport that has an Israeli stamp. "It is very difficult to see the Saudis as anything other than a backward country with backward ideals and this reaffirms that," said Weiner. "I think the administration should take a hard look at this Web site and decide whether a country that has these policies should be considered our ally." Weiner said the U.S. should close its doors to Saudis until they "clarify" their immigration policy. Appleciderus - this is now a 2 day old report. Has anyone seen it mentioned by the media? Anywhere? At all? Hmmmmm...seems strange to me that ir hasn't been mentioned elsewhere. Is it possible the media is anti-Sem...no, no...that couldn't be.

No worries, man, we all know what the Saudis are. Any civilised behaviour by this disgusting species would be surprising - this post is not. Weiner's point is well taken as to whether the Saudi scum should be considered an ally, and hopefully if Iraq gets on its feet, Saudi will fall into the cross hairs. Besides, only an ardent masochist would want to visit Saudi as a tourist without business/military/religious compulsions.

Additionally, ALL U.S. corporations, including those contracted via entities of the U.S. Government strictly adhere to the Saudi policy of excluding Jews from employment within their country. Look at the corporate board of the Carlyle Group - who served as "front" men to negotiate many lucrative Saudi contracts for A

In defense of the mainstream media, they did pick this one up: http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/02/28/visa.flap/index.html (In less of a defense of them, it took them a while to do it ...) --Phoenix Rising

"we all know what the Saudis are" True. But, every now and then it's good to call a barbarian a barbarian, out loud, where everyone can hear.

From Jay Nordlinger, National Review: http://nationalreview.com/impromptus/impromptus200403010907.asp The following is no legend, unfortunately: The Saudis formally banned Jews from their country (no great surprise). After some protest — U.S. protest, of course — they seem to have unbanned them. (To follow the story, go to the magnificent James Taranto.: http://www.opinionjournal.com/best/?id=110004750 ) And the Iraqi Governing Council? According to a fascinating and appalling report in the New York Times, it is keen to keep Jews — Iraq-born Jews! — out of that country. Thanks a lot, fellas. Makes you almost want to de-liberate them. And the Israelis contributed a significant amount to their liberation — these stories are not yet widely known, but they will come out in the fullness of time. But about Saudi Arabia, once more: A German friend writes me, "I heard something remarkable from a friend who went to the desert kingdom on business. At the airport there, he noticed that all the Americans and Brits were given a hard time. (There were no Israelis around, of course.) But he, as a German, was treated with a most kindly smile and a warm welcome. Then, when he was retrieving his passport, the Saudi officer started laughing and called out, 'Heil, Hitler!'" Lovely — and utterly believable from anyone with an ounce of experience in that part of the world. (See — always see — the horrifying but indispensable MEMRI.org.: http://www.memri.org/bin/latestnews.cgi?ID=SR2604 swhitebull - let's hope the roosters come home soon on this abomination - my only real complaint and disappointment with the Bush Administration A little Libya? The U.S. has lifted its travel ban, and "invited American companies to begin planning their return . . ." — this according to the AP. See what happens when you play ball, Moammar? Here are here
