Can you believe this? Its about time the U.S. takes the kid gloves off with SA. They've done just about everything short of military action to hamstring our efforts to combat terrorism. Where in the hell is the gratitude for selling them so much of our military equipment? What a worthless ally. on Saudi demands for return of detainees-- http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/ap/20020129/wl/guantanamo_detainees.html on Saudi military expenditures and arms transfers--

They also want to make sure their 'citizens' get better treatment at Quantanimo. Makes me want to puke.

" What a worthless ally." You actually considered them an ally?

I always wonder how much of the Royal House's anti-Americanism is genuine and how much is just posturing. Unfortunately, the more I watch and learn, the more genuine it seems. In addition, what little of it is not inherently genuine is a response to anti-American sentiments among certain classes of Saudi society ... which still doesn't do us any good. Here's an interesting question, though: What exactly will Saudi Arabia DO if we leave? For that matter, what will they do if we don't want to? We've talked plenty about their character ... but where do we think that is going to lead them? Will they try to muster another oil embargo? With the way our relations with Russia are warming, that might not hurt us as much as it would have 10 years ago. They really can't risk ticking us off too much, can they? Don't we probably already have more than enough evidence to classify them as a terrorist-sheltering state, if they push us to it? At the very minimum, we could declare many organizations prominent within SA as terrorist organizations, if we haven't already. Quite honestly, I don't imagine our men and women in uniform (when they're allowed to wear them, anyway) there will be too disappointed to leave. I just don't think the Saudis can count on our next meeting being as beneficial to them. --Phoenix Rising

Like I said before...its all about oil and we should buy it from South America and the Russians and from ourselves. Let the house of cards collapse. ...and ignore the pieces.

"Like I said before...its all about oil and we should buy it from South America and the Russians and from ourselves. Let the house of cards collapse. ...and ignore the pieces" There was an interesting article in the Z-magazine by Tariq Ali, a Pakistani with an excellent reputation for incisive thinking. His article bemoans that american support to the house of Saud. The article traces the roots of Islamic terrorism, the Wahabi Islam, and the role of Saudi Sheiks in financing terrorism. You can get the article in the archives of or the z magazine.

There were some editing errors in an earlier post.. His article bemoans that american support to the house of Saud has acted to the detriment of democracy in Saudi Arabia. pfd    what is this place really?   2/20/2002 9:49:43 AM
The house of saud was built by the glorious imbeciles who gave us WW1. They shopped Faisal from kingdom to kingdom until they found a place that Europe didn't want. Enter the oil reserves, Enter the Armani suits and the Dior dresses plus MR Ferrari's lovely cars. Enter the secret police to keep the great unwashed in line. Bring in the foriegn workers to keep the wheels turning. What do you have here. How many faces? No wonder they are turning to madness. Artificial constructs propping up other artificial constructs. No wonder their children turn to madness. Money must be the root of all evil-maybe human vanity ? Because the monsters that this system causes are the ones who can't get rich effortlessly. So they turn to God.....such a God. The God that did'nt give me a Ferrari.
