Subject: Role of self propelled artillery systems

1. Has the role of SP arty been undermined by the extensive use of missiles and the air force as was done in Iraq? 2. Can the arty systems based on high mobility vehicles really substitute the SP arty in tommorows battle field?

Well this brings us around to our old debate on light and heavy forces and their air-deployability. An Artillery battery out of ammo is an embarassement. A C-130 loads about 40.000 lb, which means about 400 shells or 66 pr. gun. This compares to 2 trucks working flat out to supply one gun (as far as I have understood from this board). "Is your call for firesupport REAAAALLLY nescessary???".
