Can anyone here provide a brief description on how to handle a mis-fire?

Lucky the ground was not frozen, they would be still chasing it.

Your boys decided to do just that but without digging in the spades at all just to see what would happen ;). How does 40 ft displacement sound!!!!!!A valuabe lesson was learned, you have to give the spades 3" of engagement, if you do that the geometry of the trail arm will make the spades dig. If this means goin and getting the pick axe so be it. A Marine Corp Gunny told me in Alaska to "go take 800mg of Suck it Up and get diggin" ;) I was not impressed.

Leave it to the crazy canuks(40ft). From watching the videos - strong backs required. Where is my M109:-)

Loved the stories in the Civil War how the gunners would do retreat by recoil....i.e., keep firing and letting the guns recoil and fire from the new position. Got to be a bit sticky when gun came to a wall!

Canadian gunners don't retreat, we advance to the rear. :-)

Uh, forty feet of displacement? I'd like the gun safed again. +/- 2mils of the lay deflection sure as hell has changed. Rode the trails of an M101A1 at Chg. 7 in a direct fire shootoff. That was fun, but this is NO COMPARISON. Photo looked like 29 stumps.

Yep, thats the Stumps, down by Lavic Lake IIRC. Just to clarify, the 40 ft was on permafrost without digging the spades at all!!!! Normally firing top zone at min QE with minimum spade engagement (3 Inch) you will get 3-4ft of displacement on the initial round. after that everything settles down and once those big spades are fully seated the gun hardly moves.
