Here is a link to the canadian forces website regarding their new M777 Howitzers. Pretty good video clip of some of the operator training conducted at Sill contained on same page. http://www.army.forces.gc.ca/lf/English/6_1_1.asp?FlashEnabled=1&id=808

Wasn't it Napolean who said something to the effect that God fights on the side with the best artillery?

It's interesting that the Brit para bty about to deploy to Afg has reorganised to be able to operate as 3 independent troops of 2 guns each as well as the more usual. Also been practising direct fire in close spt of inf.

Having not worked on the L118 what type of direct fire sight does it have? is it secondary to the dial sight, ie a simple scope boresighted at a fixed range? Or is the dial sight just aligned with the tube for this task? And elevation set using a range card?

Neutralizer Why do you think they have re-organised. Is it because the army units have no other direct fire weapons do you think?

I am not a big fan of the Triple7. Lacking information about the new gun is the main reason. We phased out the 155mm towed for the M109, then phased out the M109 for the 155mm towed. Go figure.

I looked for Artys video clip and couldn't find it, unless it's this: http://www.army.forces.gc.ca/lf/English/6_1_1_1.asp?id=942 The troops seem impressed.

I hadnt seen that clip, I wonder how cold it was there? I suspect its pretty cold as I noticed it took two guys on the pump handle charging the scavenge system initially and the loading tray seemed to come up a little slow. All signs that it is cold and the hydraulic fluid is nice and thick and viscous!!! The clip I was initialy referring to is on this page, just clik the link "Watch Video" http://www.army.forces.gc.ca/lf/English/6_1_1.asp?FlashEnabled=1&id=808
