Subject: So, how's it feel to have the shoe on the other foot?
chemist    11/8/2004 3:13:44 AM
I remember reading a few months back that the Francophone posters here thought US fire discipline was bad because Americans had killed some civillians. Called us a bunch of cowboys you did. Well, French troops just waxed a bunch of rioters. So, does French fire discipline suck worse than the Americans, or are the French just learning that chaos sometimes causes mistakes? Shoes on the other foot now mon ami. Careful next time. Laying baseless charges(like disparaging American fire discipline) can sometimes come back to bite you in the arse(like it just did)..

I only hope that all cultural and public sites across the country are being protected from looters. Not just the sites that are valuable to the occupiers.

And if you dig a little on the stories saying that US troops wacked civillians you've got the same level of veracity sources. That's why I'm torqued. You help condemn the States, but defend the French? Honestly, I think both are bunk(but that accidents do happen). So why be so Francophone? They're getting subjected to the same media bs game that the States was. Welcome to the hearts and minds meat grinder of slanted reporting. Scholar, honestly, why is it okay for the US to be subjected to bs stories along these lines, but the French are out of bounds? Face it, they're in the same boat we are in Iraq(except that the French have been in and out of the Ivory Coast for at least a decade and its still the inmates running the asylum). They're gonna get tarred with the same junk we are..

"Hey, rather than point fingers and go "ha-ha!" when civilians get killed by either French or Americans, how about realizing that, if neither side exercised fire discipline, both the Ivory Coast and Iraq would be undergoing a steep population decline. Both American soldiers and French soldiers are trying to do the best they can. Let's remember that." Okay, I did a little of the schedefreud thing, but that's largely what I'm saying..

Have the French managed to kill over ten thousand Ivorian civilians in less than two years??? Wait, the French never promised to 'liberate' Ivory Coast by killing thousands of civilians.

Well, at least I haven't gone so far as this guy has. The French are facing the same PR nightmare as the Coalition in Iraq. http://www.ocnus.net/artman/publish/article_15323.shtml .
