the day when some high school kid has the capability to design a virus to kill off his red headed left handed tormentor isn't very far off at the rate things are going. not exactly a comforting thought is it.

Marching Through Georgia, Under the Yoke and The Stone Dogs, S.M. Stirling...I am a combat veteran of Vietnam. I saw it all and more of it than I wanted. And I have never read combat like S.M. Stirling writes. The Draka stories are based on what would have happend if a slave economy had been able to survive and thrive to modern times and beyond. I found it so cold blooded as to be refreshing in these politically correct times. Very entertaining, realistic, sexy and bloody. The perfect Sci-Fi war writing.

Just a fine, fine read, and Heinlein probably invented the whole concept of mechwarriors. Also probably pioneered the idea that infantry (and any others that go in harm's way) must be as elite as possible, to decrease casualties to themselves.

Resurrecting this old post by Eon where he recommended H Beam Pipers story collection. I just discovered that he did a sequel to Kalvan of Otherwhen (Gunpowder God in the UK) called Great Kings War. Not quite as good as the original but still a good read. You can download or read the whole novel for free here: http://www.baen.com/library/. I'm not sure if you'd call this military science fiction but the batttle scenes in Erich Fint's 1632 are well done.

Hi Dogtag. As a matter of fact the novel has been considered for both a possible TV series, and a feature film. Nothing has happened yet, but keeping my fingers crossed. However can't worry about that as I am in the process of writing the sequel. Ooo Rah! Decker

Someone mention Turtledove I haven't read anything since two Georges. Tom Clancy is daddy, but not of MSF. What he writes is not MSF, it's real-time current realpolitik warfare Military fiction.
