Anything by David Drake. He served in the Cav in Viet Nam. Also Jerry Pournelle's books.

I haven't read much Clancy, but what I have read has been very disappointing. Where is the characterisation? I thought ST was pretty good, both book and film, but they are different things. If I had loved one, I would probably have hated the other. "1632", I think that would be the 30 years war, rather than the 100 years War, Jay? But happy to be put right. I thought that the film Aliens was basically a war film and a bloody good one. Any one agree?

I like this little set of books on this unit. Also has anyone see the wargame of it?

Never read Hammer's Slammers, but bought the game a while back just because a discount store had it for about 3 bucks. Never tried it - looks pretty like a PanzerBlitz/Panzer Leader clone. SC-
