Subject: Ultimate cheese or ultimate comedy?
doggtag    9/22/2004 12:30:05 AM
OK, all you "old school" guys who remember the (cue cheesy sound effects) S U P E R M A R I O N A T I O N ! (end cheesy sound effects) of the Thunderbirds Are GO! series, the creators of South Park (ultimate foul-mouthed animation) have created a new cheese movie to saturate our comedy senses: Team America, World Police http://www.teamamerica.com/ seems to rip on everything America's got going on right now (War on Terror, etc), but filmed not in live-action (like the recent Thunderbirds movie) or in cheesy animation (like South Park), but in the puppet world that the original Thunderbirds were done in (cue cheesy sound again) S U P E R M A R I O N A T I O N ! (end cheesy sound) Go and have a look-see at the trailer, and come back with your thoughts. Is this gonna be an ultimate cheese movie? Or will it actually have some sense of true comdey. I'd like to vlounteeer to buy all these America bashers on SP here tickets to go see it,.. but NO! I'd rather watch the (cue sound again) S U P E R M A R I O N A T I O N ! (end sound) by myself without having to explain the cheesy nuances to people here who still haven't gotten the language right and think everything me and ORCA put up here is 100% true. (Come on, GRUM, back me up on this. It's your kind of show!) ;) .

I have the entire Thunderbirds series on VHS, courtesy of TechTV. AND the entire Capt. Scarlet series from Sci-Fi Channel. Top THAT, Hood!.

Thunderbird 2 (the big green one) was always my favorite. What always amazed me though: with the super technology the ships would've had "back in the day", all their ground rescue vehicles cranked out as much smoke as a diesel when it first starts up! What?? no electric motors, fuel-efficient turbines, or fuel cells? Of course, I always thought Lady Penelope's car/boat/tank was an interesting vehicle also. The only "eerie" thing about any of it was how The Hood's eyes glowed..

Personally, I found the trailer hysterical. There were no preachy anti-american overtones that I could see. In fact, the only people getting made fun of (that I could see) were terrorists, blondes, actors, and Kim Jong-whateva. I'd pay to see it..

At least someone is using the incredible powers of S U P E R M A R I O N A T I O N ! I was crushed to learn that the Thunderbirds movie used live child actors. The plan to take my daughter to a good movie quickly were dashed. I swear that nearly everything that Hollywood touches turns to smelly cheese. I will see this and I may take my daughter, but that would be in 10 more years...

10 more years??? Unless you plan on seeing its 3rd episode (will it be called Part 6?), you'll be watching this one on DVD from your couch! ...but that's providing we don't get hit with the DVD's replacement by that time. Seems to me, VHS only lasted primetime barely 15 years. 10 years from, we could all be the main heroes of our own immersive, interactive movies. You could even CG in the strings and make yourself look like a S U P E R M A R I O N E T T E ! .
