Subject: who was the egyptian general in 1948?

i was looking for the egyptian general that i believe was very respected by the israelis during the war for independence. if i remember right, he was very dark complected almost an african black..i believe i saw him in a photo of peace negotiations with the israelis in a tent in the desert. does anyone know who im talking about?

T'wasn't easy, but googling it up in Hebrew was the way to it.
There's a wiki on Major-General Ahmad Ali al-Mwawi, but where did you find a photo? It seems that History remembers only the victors.

i saw his pic in a book...during truce negotiations in a tent in the sinai and i believe it was in 1948.  i believe they said he might have been born in sudan...not sure.
