The Nulka Active Missile Decoy system protects naval ships from the threat of anti-ship missiles (ASM).   The award-winning Nulka system uses a unique combination of hovering rocket flight vehicle and sophisticated electronic warfare payload to decoy enemy missiles away from the target ship.

Nulka System Features

The Nulka system offers a rich set of capabilities and qualities:

  • Delivers a 'fire and forget' rapid reaction with a minimum of threat information
  • Provides automatic, semi-automatic and manual modes of operation
  • All-weather operational capability
  • Imposes no restrictions on ship manoeuvre
  • Capable of decoying multiple ASMs simultaneously with a single decoy

Nulka has been installed on 100 ships of the Royal Australian, Canadian and US Navies.   It has been mandated for the next generation of surface warships - the USN DDG-1000 and RAN Air Warfare Destroyer classes.

An old trick played by Royal Navy during the Falkland War: RN helicopter pilots flew decoy missions to guide Argentinian missiles onto themselves. I guess it's better to have the pilot part improved.
