Most, if not all, of the shells and missiles were Russian in origin.

Infidel, Your reply to the question of Russian complicity is the same that others are offering in response to your accusations of American complicity. YOu can't see why others find your claims erroneous because you don't want to, despite your using the same logic in relation to Russia. They're arguement is stronger though. Why? They have concrete evidence to which there is a consensus in the news networks the world over and all reputable intelligence agencies. All you have done is provide links to conspiracy theory sites. That just doesn't cut it. Russian complicity is a proven fact. American complicity is an unsubstantiated claim. There is a difference between the twon.

Wasn't the gas used on the Kurds a Russian blood agent? Given that the US has never engaged in chemical warfare, I would find it highly unlikely that we would be handing out free samples to anyone--not Iraq, not Germany, not Israel. You never know where those weapons might end up. I have heard rumors that American pharmaceutical companies supplied samples of diseases to Saddam, obstensibly for the Iraqis to develop safeguards against them, in case Iran used them. I've never seen these reports substantiated. *smacks head* Wait, what am I thinking? Everything bad in the world is America's fault. Just ask Jean-Bernard Aristide.

Its a fact that US and Germany helped Iraq develop chemical weopons. Saddam was seen as a good partner in the middle east by US, Europe and Sovjet against the "mullas" of Iran. It was in the Gulf war that that changed (overnight).

Obviously it was felt to be in the US's interest to help Iraq in the 80's. There was a careful managing of them, and the Iranians. Saddam was used to bleed Iran and keep all that revolutionary energy from spilling over too far. However, US also could not afford to have Iraq or any Arab state get too powerful. Maybe US did not count on any Arabs being mad at each other any more over how Brits and French carved up that corner of the world after WW I. But I guess some were upset about it. So maybe that's why nobody thought Saddam would go into Kuwait. But that US did not really care about Iraq is clear from Reagan's line when IAF took out reactor: "Boys will be boys!"

Supprising as it may be to some, a war can start without the US permission.
