Subject: Russian deploy troops to Iran in the face of imminent attack.

from an article at: http://www.spacewar.com/reports/Moscows_Move_In_Iran_Crisis.html about the result of "war gaming" excercise at George Mason University: "When it became clear that an American attack was imminent, the Russian team announced an extraordinary measure: the deployment of Russian troops to strategic (nuclear) sites in Iran." Interesting possibility to discuss with all its ramifications.

I rather agree with AdvanceAustralia and others here - that the Russians want to look like they're on both sides of the fence, but when it comes down to it a) they have too much to get by oil prices going up, and b) they don't want any more Islamic countries to have nukes. The Russians and Chinese only want to make life difficult for the US up to a point. They're not going to side with Iran in a shooting match. Nonetheless, its interesting to discuss how the politicians would react if the Russians sent a "human shield" contingent. Now if the Russians said their troops where there to be (self-appointed) monitors of Iran's nuclear activities things might be more interesting. They would be somewhat neutering the IAEA and the U.N. The Russians might have a lot to gain on both sides in this scenerio.
