Subject: It Started At White Sands. Where Will It End UP?

It would be ironic if, as the nation which introduced the atom bomb to the world, the dangers arising from accelerating nuclear proliferation became so terrible and so real that to survive we should have to jettison our constitutional system and submit ourselves to the authority of a world government system which would probably be designed by authoritarians. As more countries go nuke and especially if a nuke is used, there will be at the same time an increased perception of insecurity and a heightened demand for new nuclear weapons capability among non-nuke nations of the world. The effects of prolifertion on other countries probably will impact us domesically and in our relations with the world. Is it not foreseeable that an opened ended process of nuclear proliferation will end up making essential a globally dominant authority existing to overide the authorities of nation states of the world? Such an authority might start out with a limited scope but that would not last. What Iran means to me is that someone is probably going to have to run the world some day in the foreseeable future. Who should that be?
