Subject: What a professional Egyptian pilot can do....
American Kafir    4/5/2004 2:04:51 PM
"President Hosni Mubarak was quoted shortly after September 11th in an interview with Al-Ahram stating that: “I find it hard to believe that people who were learning to fly in Florida could, within a year and a half, fly large commercial airliners and hit with accuracy the towers of the World Trade Center which would appear, to the pilot from the air, the size of a pencil. Only a professional pilot could carry out this mission, not someone who learned to fly for 18 months in Florida." ....crash into a pencil at 500 knots?

AHOY,

Just noticed date on post but , lets see if we can bring some attention back here.

yes lots of questions about that day? I never trust reports (911 commission) after so much time has pasted.

Speaking of scale references I like to use one foot equals a mile. Rounded off your looking at 440 per inch down to 1/64 equaling about 7 foot i.e. NBA player Shak.

I find it grate for every situation i.e. tactical  say 10 square miles (indoors I switch to one 10th or full scale) and strategical (global). I visualize all fighters as a 1/8th inch (55 feet to scale) triangle or X for jet or helo respectfully. ANYWHO!

This basically give user same view as satellites (perspectively) if you have the data to build working model in your mind. You can predict future for instance if you know the speed of vehicle approaching intersection for example.

AHOY,

SP clock will show, I just picked this post at random, I then noticed date and just researched member. From what I read He and me would not see things the same. I take it he is no longer posting but well see.  If not maybe i'll start my own scale talk post.

I've been MIA from Strategy Page for four, maybe five years (oh wow...) just passing through to read anything on the Egypt board given the current insanity over there now. And noticed my old post had been bumped.

There's no "scaling" involved in flying a plane into a building (or landing at an airport or on an aircraft carrier). Are you an idiot?

Try this experiment:

Hold your arm straight out in front of you, palm wide open. Now pull your arm rapidly back and try to steer your face into slapping yourself.

Did your hand get bigger?

AHOY,

Sorry to here about your sister, I noticed that no one else mentioned her yet. I do hope if you have a sister in Cairo she is Okay.

So welcome back to the club American Kafir. I did not think you would fit in here, LOL but it's me that dose not fit in. maybe I need to call someone an idiot or start pointing out every little mistake but that's not me. but maybe I am an idiot for posting here at all.

My scaled visualization system has shown me much. For instance the news will talk like California is burning down.

But then you look at say 100,000 acres worth of area compared to a state that to scale would be nearly three football fields north to south and one football field east to west and that 155 square mile/feet area (644 sq acre to a sq mile) dose not look so big.

Like they say about the world in reality, large areas are really quit small and small areas look big. Example the Texas Panhandle to scale is about the size of a football field, but standing there on the panhandle (you at full scale)  looking east and west the coast are only about a quarter of a mile away.

Did you know given that standard three by three open rank formation everyone in his or her own square yard. You can get 3.1 million people in with a square mile. Maybe this million man march should all stand there and jump up and down like a big baby and crack the earths mantel in Egypt. LOL a collage has shown that only 20 thousand people (I believe) could register on the rector scale

And anytime anything gets closer to my face it looks bigger. LOL.

WTF does "scaling" have to do with Hosni Mubarak trying to rule out the Egyptian Muhammad Atta's flying of a passenger jet into the World Trade Center? He said it couldn't be done with year and a half of pilot training and that it have taken a professional pilot.

Japanese pilots recieved as much if not less training and had little trouble crashing their planes into US naval aircraft in World War 2. All of those ships were smaller than the WTC towers.

It was a stupid statement on Mubarak's part.

AHOY,

Its about perspective like the (sniper) statement of hitting a gnat at 1000 yards. Or with SDI statement of hitting a bullet with a bullet.

IMO Mubarak was suggesting that the view and time available to the pilot to make adjustments to flight path was based on a view, range and time that only offered the pilot a brief window of decision making. For instance at a mile away an F-16 appears the size of your little pink finger nail. Those towers are 250 feet wide I believe, so your looking at your thumb at one mile or so. And they look ever larger as you get closer but at 600 miles an hour you got 6 second or so per mile. I can't speck intelligently about the flight envelope capabilities of those aircraft but lets just say your trying to turn a Cruse ship around. LOL. Like they say about U.S. foreign policy's.

Look at all the hoop and hype about the landing in the Potomac last year by that pilot. All he did was "right turn Clyde" and then leveled the wings, the hitting of the water was guaranteed at that point. I think he even said it was luck.

Or the all famous hoop and hype of landing on a carrier. IMO that is really routine, like a fly hitting fly trap paper.

Or most all of us posting on this site being like a bunch of flies on the stern of a cow standing next to a 8 lane interstate

AHOY,

I'm not trying to antagonized anyone here.

I made a mistake with my reference on the towers, the F-16 reference is good and based on full scale i.e. on reality.

However yesterday when i used the thumb for the towers I was thinking in terms of my one foot equals a mile visualization system i.e. 1/2 inch equaling 220 feet.

ANYWHO, if anyone realized or cares if we stick to the F-16 reference scale you would be looking at two finger width or so for each of the towers not your thumb as in the one foot scale.

If we changed the F-16 to one foot etc. it would be about the size of this (v), and like a wrote with towers being  one 1/2 in width.
