TXAggie93    1/22/2004 4:11:51 PM
Can france take back french Guaina from Brazil or would they fail? What would it take for french to take it back? Would other South American force come to Brazil's aid? Would the USA say let Brazil have it?

Brazil has somewhat of a navy a carrier ((the old French Clemenseu Ironically enough and a few old Frigates..but the French should be able to fairly easily establish control of the sea. the major difference between Guaina and the falklands is that Brazil has a land border and can establiush Air superiority over the disputed land not to mention but a lot more boots on the ground. France would be lucky to be able to move 5,00 assault troops and the one carier would not be enough. Be interested if any of the french Carribean Islands hove decent runways

It would be interesting to see the charles de gaule vs the San Polo (french Aircraft Carrier Foch) I agree they would be hard pressed to take it back. I do not think that they could get air supperority. They might be able to control the shipping lanes and do a naval blockade though. Plus Brazil will have the Mirage 2000 with total transfer of technology. http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/brazil/fx-br.htm "France's Mirage 2000-5BR and Russia's Sukhoi Su-35 lead the race, sources say, mainly because of their promise of total technology transfer and local manufacture. Ties were established between Embraer and a French industry consortium that has been heavily promoting the Mirage 2000-5BR. Conversely, technology transfer and sophisticated weapons appear to be dirty words for Washington, which will not freely supply beyond-visual-range missiles for the F-16s it is offering. Also competing are the Saab/BAE Systems Gripen and the MiG-29. " This would really make things interesting for sure.

I see Brazil and France as allies an not as enemies. By the way, Peru could help Brazil against a foreign power, as we did with Argentina against England.

In the Malvinas War, we send free many Mirages and Exoxet to Argentina, and many Peruvians voluntaries were ready to go. Dident' you know? Also The Venezuelans F16 were intercepted going to Argentina, for the Americans f-14, and they obbey them to return to Venezuela.

Until now Brasil is weak and has huge borders. It has unsufficient forces to prevent an invasion by a country like France. Brazilian Army's equipment is in very bad shape. Abandoned for years and without resources, half of Brazil's airplanes and ships are inoperable. http://www.brazzil.com/2003/html/news/articles/nov03/p116nov03.htm So issue is clear, even without using nukes.

Stratege are you saying the French could take Brazil in Brazil? good luck. Is Brazil weak for its size yep but weak for 120,000,000 is a lot dirfferent than Weak for 40,0000,000. Brazils forces are light it is true..and designed for the South Americxna Environment. As France would have a difficult time mounting an invasion force of more than 8,000-10,000 I have every confidence that the Brazilians would be eventually victorious

To control Brasil like US try to do in Iraq it would be very difficult unless we re install draft in France. But no problem to destroy Brasilian heavy forces and size a piece of territory. To send more than four divisions and support them imply a war mobilisation in France. But at the today forces and with a some money to finance operations in a delay of six month we can do what the British have done to China in nineteenth century (or coalised powers in Boxer revolt): whatever Brasil light ground forces size is you can turn them with navy and airforce.Size a little then destroy, and do it again 500 miles away.

France is not a problem for Brazil, as the US is. Last year Brazil and Peru have sing an estrategical aliance, to protect the Amazon in front the entrance of the US in Colombia. Ok, today the South American Forces are not a problem for the South Comander of the US,based in Manta Ecuador, bat in 10 years many things could change. The unification of South America, (Mercosur-Andean Pact) is going ahead. By the way, to fight in the jungle is not a piece of cake, an we the Peruvian are experts.
