Why not? No one is satisfied with the selection available. So work off your frustration: give the title and plot summary of your dream war movie.

Godofgamblers    'A Desert Too Far...'   9/28/2007 3:55:48 AM
I'd like to see a film of an alternate history where France is planning to invade Iraq instead of the US because the 9/11 hijackers chose to hit Paris instead of New York.

In this cinematic versionk, FS is the Commander in Chief of French forces and DA and Herald are US generals brought in as part of the 'coalition des bien disposés'. In a tension packed scene, DA and Herald repeatedly slam their fists down on the table and tell FS that he does not have the troop numbers, the airlift capacity or the logistics to carry out the operation. FS goes ahead with it anyway, convinced he can...

how will the film end? ... You be the judge!

From the American Revolution - The Battle of Lake Champlain.  Build it yourself warships then go and take on the Redcoats!

Someone already mentioned "The Guns of August", I agree, it would make a great multi-part movie.

For scifi - "The Mote in God's Eye" - Alien first contact and some realistic space battles - what isn't cool about that.

If you call it a desert too far....
But anyway this movie would end with glory for french armed forces and a daring campaign will would atonish rest of the world

Now on some movies people asked here like Charlemagne wars, Kolwezi, Battle of Chalon, opening days of WW1  ...some movies already exist in France but were for most movies for TV with episodes and as often with those kind of movies, budgets were limited so battles are not spectacular or very well rendered or very few .It is not opening scenes of Saving private Ryan or Gladiator.
For me one of the worst war movie I remember is the 1965 US movie of Bulge battle were equipement is not authentic and characters simplistic. You can not do a war movie with battles not done with same looking equipement or decision process of officers looking so simplistic.

Decision making processes of officers can't avoid being simplified. Though of course there is simplified and simplified...
I remember one Bulge movie where there was hardly any forest.

Red Storm Rising.  I don't think one movie would be enough, but one can dream.

I'd also love to see an Alien invasion movie with more military action and less bs.  I loved the hill scene in War of the Worlds, and I'd love to see a movie with more of that.

Hell yeah! I'd love to see a good adaptation of Red Storm Rising! I feel that that book was Clancy's masterpiece, because the characters are believeable, and didn't include the superhuman feats of Jack Ryan.

There has been a movie about the Winter War between Finland and the USSR. It was called, not surprisingly, "The Winter War" (I cannot recall the Finnish name for it) but I thought it was a very good movie. The Soviet uniforms and tanks look period-correct for the Winter of 1939.

I would love to see a movie made about the Battle of Chalons in 451 A.D. The legions of Flavius Aetius against the Hunnish Horde of Attila. Until that battle, Attila's forces rode nearly unopposed across Gaul, laying waste to nearly everything they passed. Their depravities were such that they were viewed as almost an evil force of nature rather than a mere invading army. A movie based on the book "Sword of Attila" would be nice, historical accuracy aside.

Red Storm Rising would be a wonderful movie although it would not be popular today!

There was one about Chalons. It was quite good.
I watched the Winter War movie and didn't like it. To much time in the trenches. While that is realistic, I always picture the winter war as ghostlike Finns haunting the Russians in the depths of the forest.

a realistic account of operation tidal wave.  the first big attack on Ploesti oil refineries.  Low level B-24s, B-24 vs flak train, german, romanian and bulgarian airforces, start with the training in africa,,no homefront scenes, no love interests, just good historical, technical and tactical accuracy.

Id like to see a remake of the Dambusters movie uising all the technology availble to todays film makers.  Should cover more than just that Dam raid though.  617 Squadron did losts more after that which I dont think a lot of folks know about.

To get hollywood buy in however would require a "Token" American I suppose :)
