Why not? No one is satisfied with the selection available. So work off your frustration: give the title and plot summary of your dream war movie.

Battle of the Leyte Gulf where Halsey didn’t take the fast battleships with him- Battle between the Yamatos and the Iowas

And if longrifle will forgive another scifi request, Jerry Pournelle’ s book the  Janissaries. - Mercs from 1970’s Africa are taking by an UFO’s to another planet to impose order on a group of the planet’s natives. The natives are human taken for Earth in the past. You have Celts with longbows, Roman legions and machine guns all mixed up. (Man, typing this up, it stuck me this sound really stupid) But hosently when you get into them, the books are pretty good.

Speaking of the Battle of the Leyte,  I finished The Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors a few month ago. A movie about the charge of Taffy 3 with todays special effect.

A battle epic(like Midway, Gettysburg, Gods and Generals) done about Lepanto. Lepanto begs for a battle epic.

The guy the played Aragorn in Lord of the Rings should play Don Juan. Who should play Ali Pasha?

Vin Diesel as Ali Pasha

Is this a battle movie or a chick flick?  They are both cool actors though.

Nan,
1. Battle of Talas River
2. Egypt at its height vs. Nubians, Persians, etc.
3. Ivan the Terrible pushing back the Mongols
4. An alien movie with Earth caught between hostile infiltrators already in place and friendlies making a direct diplomatic approach.
5. A Charlemegne movie.

Why am I not surprised at all?

"Quartered Safe out Here" Based on the book by George MacDonald Fraser (author of the Flashman series) about his time in Burma (44-45).  The actors would be virtually incomprehensible, possibly requiring subtitles and a substantial voice-over by the Fraser character. But it would be very good and very different to much of the hollywood efforts. I doubt it would do well on the international market (no Americans) but this is dream movies, n'est pas?

Is that covered in McAuslan Entire or is it different?

I'd love to see some decent movies about WW2 in the East. There have been virtually no English language films on the subject, and even the German or Russian ones are hard to get.

*The battle of Khalkin-Gol: Tanks, mounted troops, dogfights in the air & the possibility of a great final scene with Japanese officers drawing swords & charging Russian tanks (it may not have actually happened, but it easily could have).

Good choice. I will raise you with Operation August Storm.

If I were directing the movie it would only have battle scenes mentioned in context concentrating on the deep emotional side of each man. May even throw in an hour long wedding scene like in Godfather. Then the movie would concentrate on monolagues of each character, but not of the battle, of social issues and whether the are left or right wing. The movie would then end with a surprise twist showing how the Turks lost because of absence of Ali Pasha who was arrested by an Constantnople vice cop for tapping his feet in a public toilet.

A decent Anglo-Boer War movie with a Boer General like de la Rey in the main role.  Or von Lettow-Vorbeck's campaign against the British Empire in Africa with said general in the main role.  Both epic stories that would play out well on the big screen.  How someone like Lawrence of Arabia gets a decent film whilst those gentlemen don't is beyond me.
