I would love to see a movie based on the Selous Scouts... 

Two movies I'd love to see would be something set during the Philippine American war and the other would be a story of a warship and the men who her crewed her set during WWII, no sub or carrier those have been done to death, but one set on a cruiser or destroyer.  Although the warship story would probably make a better miniseries ala Band of Brothers style.  Also very little CGI that sh*t still looks too cartoony to me.

I reckon you could not do justice to the WWII battle of Guadalcanal without several TV series to cover all aspects of the campaign even only showing one sides view of events including special movie length episodes to cover the more pivotal battles on land, in the air or at sea. Funding requirements would be huge however it would detail a campaign that confirmed the promise of ultimate victory offered by the battle of Midway.

 

Again a TV series on the life of Hannibal Barca, there are enough contemporary or nearly so sources as to his biography to show his life with enough gaps to allow 'poetic licence' at both the public and personal levels. The battle of Cannae aside, this man was leading armies to victory as soon as his testicles dropped, if not before and his military career continued long after Zama. I have never found his attempts to reform Carthaginian political life after Zama to have been adequately explored in any media and the resulting back stab from his political rivals makes for an interesting aside to his military achievements.

 

I like Flaming Knives idea about a movie based on Warhammer 40K, perhaps a plot developed based on the results of one of the world-wide campaign results?

about that imbecile, William Halsey.

Failing that, make a film that told the truth about Admiral Fallon, a man who's been seriously wronged by history. Nobody  in our power elite class would come out of such a film looking good..........the hypocrites.

1 - Starship troopers done right. Need Powered armors, No Bev Hills 90210 BS, and my biggest peeve of the movie...the only time a human uses AIMED FIRE is to shoot his own man.

2- Guadalcanal Air Battles - Joe Foss, etc

3- Maybe a movie about Brian Boru and Clontarf

4- Battle of Monte Cassino - ala Band Of Brothers style...maybe from the Fallschirmjaeger POV

I'm with those above who want to see a good representation of the Cactus Airforce or the Battles of Iron Bottom Sound. Anybody who doubts America's willingness to stand and fight in spite of taking terrible losses ought to learn about  those epic stories of the South Pacific & Guadalcanal.
