damn extremist muslims, im glad they hate Turkey. all they do is bomb people, and destroy nations with there backwards approach to everything!! I mean look at iran, creating nucleur bombs. If someone doesnt do something about them, may god be with those unfortunate enough to have there nucleur warheads pointing in there direction.

Since america believe they must POLICE THE ENTIRE WORLD, why dont they get there lazy arses down there and do something.

i also wonder why europe must be such an all christian club. i hope things are about to change around here.

The S-300's can cover most (if not all) of Turkey; talk about a no-fly zone. The Turkish AF would have to cope with quite a few losses. Once you've gained air-superiority, the enemy on the ground can only run and hide.

FOR EVERYONE TO KNOW, CYPRUS WAS NO INVADED BY TURKEY, BUT LIBERATED. IT WAS ORIGINAL OTTOMAN LAND BEFORE THE BRITISH RENTED IT FROM US TO PAY OFF A DEBT, FROM WHICH GREEKS KILLED THE BRITISH THEN TRIED TO KILL US IN ORDER TO OCCUPY THE LAND. FAMILY MEMBERS LIVED EVERY DISASTROUS SECOND OF IT, AND WHATEVER RUBBISH IS BEING SAID IS NOT TRUE. TURKEY COULDNT JUST SEND SUPPLIES SO TURKS COULD FIGHT BACK, IT NEEDED TO BE LIBERATED SO WE COULD SURVIVE.

dont let greek propaganda confuse you, please.

The Turks (Ottomans) invaded Greece (Byzantium), killed most of their population and assimilated the rest. The Greeks have every right to take up arms. To claim Turkey liberated parts of Cyprus is ridiculous.

its so stupid to talk about propaganda when you already use this way to convince people.
But the truth is only one...about Cyprus just search Denktas my frind and read his biography to see if there was a liberation or an invade with many kills of unarmed people. It was a cruel capture of the Cyprus island by Turks the whole liberation thing is to legalize the capture. I have relatives killed there, some other were soldiers and survive.
Whats your opinion about Napalms my peaceful Turks?
I am Greek. I dont want war. But if its neccesary i ll give my life to teach you a lesson what cruelty is.
To learn to tell the TRUTH!Not to afraid to admit Armenian Genocides!Pontic genocides too!
The Smyrni holocaust!
Its pathetic for a country my friends to claim ownership for islands such Imia when there are purely signed yo be Greek in a treaty between Italy n Greece.

genocies genocies genocides......it's not that simple and I'm not going to argue again....seeing from your 3 posts I can easily say that you've pretty grown up in a Turk hating society.
I was in Cyprus 4 weeks ago and seen many things. One thing is that Rum people are not of Greek origin but pretty Greekified so it doesN't belong neither to us nor you but to Cypriot people.
Since both sides couldn't live in peace and began slaughtering each other(see I'm not just accusing your people since I'm objective but that not how they tell ;) ) Turkish army got involved. I've seen many villages and how they were killed...I've seen a veteran villiager who lost his 4 kids and wife(he found them buried in mass grave along with rest of his village member)...I'm not saying Turks didN't do things like that but again you should accuse just one side.
And as I know Turkish army did commit many crimes in second opeartion on purpose, for revenge. Thats not a good thing of course.

Who began it? we all now the answer . DoN't forget EOKA, they were for FREE CYPRUS not for Makarios's purpose

a Turk-hating society with no purpose?I know...there are good n peaceful Turks also...but they are not in charge!
You people decide to keep the generals in the goverment!why?Modern Greece never had mperialistic thoughts!
I think I have a reason to dislike Turks. There are a few like you who admit that Turkey made fatal mistakes in its history. If you think forgiveness is defacto your are wrong!

I've been reading the posts and I agree that it would most likely last a few days and be a stalemate before NATO,US oe EU step in a end the fighting. Yes Turkey has numerical superiority in manpower but so did the Arabs in all the Arab-Israeli wars and we all know that Israel defeated them.

1- All the talk about tanks: the most probable route of a Turkis invasion is through Northern Greece which is very mountanous. Using tanks in this terrain would be suicide. The Turks would probably be able to push in maybe a few km before losses become staggering due to greek defenses
2- Greece is a sea-faring nation and has been for over 2,000 years. Their Navy is highly trained and for all intent and purposes would be fighting on their own turf--The Aegean is pretty much a Greek controlled "lake" except for a few areas. Unless Turkey can neutralize the Greek Navy with their AF, their NAvy has no chance.
3- The AF are pretty well matched with good pilots on both sides. The daily mock dogfights over the Aegean is great training. However, unless Turkey can somehow knock out the S-300 based in Crete..they will suffer heavy losses before they can even get the ball rolling. The Turks fear the S-300, thats why they (and the US) made such a big stink when Cyprus was going to acquire them and forced their transfer to Crete.
4- Turkey may capture some of the smaller Greek islands along the coast or even the uninhabited ones (ie Imia) which  I think Greece may strategically aloow their capture to bog down more Turkish forces but as far as the larger ones ( Kos,Rhodes,Samos,Lesvos) I doubt they can be taken without huge losses due to their militarization and the arming of the general population. And dont be surprised if Greece lands forces on the historical Greek island of Imbros or Tenedos.
5-Lastly i doubt Russia will sit idly by and let Greece get hammered without sending covert or overt aid. Theres too much Russian natural gas flowing through Greece right now (and in the near future) for the to sit and watch their pipelines be destroyed

I wont even write about Greece invading Turkey cause thats absurd and every Greek politician and general know that it would be suicide.
So again, my opinion is that if it does happen--itwill last a few days and end in stalemate with heavy losses on both sides before the world community steps in.

I'm not a military expert and I don't have tremendous knowledge about the capabilities of either country but I would say that Turkey has a better trained military and has a much bigger advantage over Greece geostrategically- Turkey also has one of the worlds largest standing armies while Greece's army is pretty small. Barring numerical differences, the technological differences in military equipment is almost negligable.

Turkey must have a better trained military because they have been engaged in active combat many times for at least the past 34 years and almost continuously for the past 10. In 1974, they invaded and siezed part of Cyrpus, in the early 80's they were fighting Kurdish separatists, and in the 90's they took part in NATO's bombing of Yugoslavia and simultaneuosly invaded Kurdish territories in Northern Iraq. While the war in Yugoslavia was raging on, Turkey escalated their war against Kurdish separatists (or terrorists, as the Turkish governement referrs to them). Currently, Turkey launched another incursion into Iraq against the Kurds. This all spells practical fighting experience. The last time Greeks experienced real fighting was in the 1950's when they were fighting a civil war or helping NATO fight in the Korean war.

Turkey also has a geostrategic advantage over Greece. If a war broke out between the two countries, Turkey would have very easy access to a large number of Greek Islands dotting Turkeys coastline. Greece is prevented, by agreement, from militarizing those Islands so as not to infuriate Turkey. Turkey, on the other hand, maintains heavy military forces all along the mainland coast. Turkey could quickly and easy invade those Islands.

As far as military equipment goes, I believe Turkey outnumbers Greece in just about every area. Turkey seems to set it's military up as an invading force, and Greece seems to focus on defense. The only real technical advantage for the Greek forces may be their anti-air capabilities. Greece has advanced anti-air equipment from the US and Russia. Turkey doesn't really need much in the way of anti-air equipment because there's essentially no chance the Greeks, or any other nation with advanced aircraft, will invade Turkey in the foreseeable future.

If you eliminate geopolitical and economic factors, it's almost certain that Turkey would win a full scale war against Greece.

A lot of writers equate Turkeys invasion of Cyprus 34 years ago or their anti-terror operations against the Kurds as giving them some magical all-encompasing military advantage. First of all, dont equate the limited operations against the Kurds on the same level against a well equipped standing army in a hypothetical war..the Kurds fight with small arms, mines and maybe some RPGs. Greece, as has been noted by many previous postings has quite an arsenal. And as far as the Cyprus invasion, let us not forget that greece was the he midst of a 7 year military dictatorship known for its mismanagement. of course they seized 1/3 of the island..there was noone to fight them
