Subject: How rank France in world power?
french stratege    4/23/2005 9:33:41 PM
o be a world power means to master a number of power tools and capacities: Economic power: France have fourth largest economy in world, even UK GNP seems on a par.But in fact France has a slightly bigger GDP in Puchasing Power Parity, a stronguer industry as its share in GNP is bigger, and especially in military usable industry (automotive, steel, microelectronic ...). Its trade balnce is positive unless US and UK.We benefit of Euro in sense that in a crisis, Euro would not go down like pound. Our financial market is less sensitive to crisis than UK. Then our saving, gold and currencies reserves are higher. France has 43 companies in the WORLD FORTUNE 500 ranking, one more than Germany and much more than UK or Italy. For example UK industry is stronguer than France in prescription drug but you can not use that for war. War potential: US: 100; Japan: 55, Germany ,40, France 25, UK 20. Diplomatic influence: should I said that French diplomatic network is world class and second to US only (with better skills). That our foreign aid is higher than UK or US in GNP %? That we have VETO right in UNO? That our cultural influence is world second after US? Thank to our industry we can substitute to US or Russia to deliver to a friend the whole set of weapons INDEPENDANTLY (from airfighters to subs via tank or C4ISR) and can shift power balance in any area.WE ARE THE SECOND WESTERN INDEPENDANT SUPPLIER AFTER US FOR CAPACITIES. We are the only Euro nation to have the full INDEPENDANT world reco network which is second to USA. RECO satellites, Telecom satellites (bandwith second to US), ELINT satellites, DSP satellites (in 2008), METEO satellites, spy ships, 30 ELINT ground station in word with 2 dedicated to spy US satelites, SPACE SURVEILLANCE RADAR. An unkown assets is that we are the only nation with US which can produce any currencies in world (to make false money in perfect imitation - we are the best in Europe for money technology) Sensitivity to energy imports: Our oil company is fourth in world and we have ROBUST assets in non middle east areas like Gabon, Angola etc...We produce our oil industry heavy equipment and our industry is world second of US in this field. Our nuclear energy production is world second in world and give us independance on electricity. Our influence in Africa secure minerals imports. Sensitivity to embargo: France has world class semiconductors facilities and hold the more advanced Europe wafer fab (joint venture between Motorola, SGS Thomson and Philips). Our auto maker build 7,5 million car /year, we have Airbus main designed office in France and so on...Our industry is pretty well balanced and produce almost everything at world class. Then we are the only Euro nation with a launch pad and Euro leader in Space. So we do not depend on US or other nation. We produce the second set of weapons after US and we do not depend of any supplier. Military technology: we are mastering everything form nukes to C4ISR with a technological level recognised by US as world second (while UK is close after).Of course neither Japan, Germany or China enjoy such an advantage. Nukes: our nuclear force are world THIRD and we produce precise counterforce weapons INDEPENDANTLY.Good second strike ability.400 warheads vs 200 for UK.(and we have stored weapons we can reactivate).3 SSBN can strike anywhere in the world. Military skills: our war academy is renown with US and UK.Israelis send some generals to perfectionate. Should I remember that Saudia Arabia asked French to crush rebellion in Mecka and not to US or UK?Saudis special forces and military stalled two weeks before asking France help.We did it in two days with 70 commandos leading Saudi commando (and using combat nerve gaz killing 2000 rebels). Mitary capacities. Second world force projection from 2007 to 2012 as a single Cdg with 3E2C and 40 Rafales, protected by 19 frigates with top ASW, 6 SSN and 3 Horizon with ASTER 30 outperform anything UK have: Indeed UK has 2 ACTIVE small carriers (with limited self protection and 60 harriers), they will not have any BVR fighters with FA2 retirement, and not antiship capacity since Harrier GR7/9 have NO RADAR!! UK air force has an handfull of non operational EF supported by 63 old Tornado ADV.No medium range airdefense for their troops. They have more SSN (soon reduced to 8 only) and military transport but we rely on civilian military prepared transports from french companies and our overseas bases to accumulate locally . ONLY US, UK, Russia and Japan has a sub force strong enough to put in danger our fleet. In fact we can crush any OPFOR airforce of 100 SU27/Mig29 (plus old MIGS or SU) without AWAC, ONLY relying on Cdg (even I agree a second would be better and needed). Most of nation do not have ENOUGH YAKHONT equivalent missiles to crush our naval force until our second carrier is operational. UK is unable to do that and in 2010 only 4 T45 will have entered service

gixxxerking    RE:Question #1 to FS -Jamming E-2c   5/16/2005 4:10:20 PM
OK FS first turn of you ego. In this Hypothetical war the French company would get a swift kick in the rear out of Egypt and the US or Israeli's would gladly fill the gap. Ok well lets see. Jamming, good. In fact thats really good. Are these dedicated Jammers FS. Or are they loitering...ooops. You are 1000 nm away. Guess you better rotate them in that case AND provide ADDITIONAL tanker support or REDUCE the number of actual Strike planes. In addition since you can only attack from one direction, west to east and south of Crete. When the Jamming starts the EAF will know where you are comming from. And if you wait to turn on the Jammers then you will be detected from a long way off. BTW did you know the E-2C will detect the Rafale from over 200 NM away? Either way you have no suprise and you are attacking on a known route. Those tactics would get even an F-117 cblasted out of the sky. And the Rafale is no F-117. And you dont know the first thing about Egyptian ECCM. The Egyptians have the Hawkeye 2000. A very recent bird. So you are detected by bad EMCON or Radar take your pick. E-2c simply moves away and out of range of your Rafales which are at the absolute limit of their combat radius. In Fact FS its not the E-2c that you should worry about. Its the picket radars and CAP along your approach axis that will give you away. Because you will have to jam or destroy them first. So you are not likely to get the E-2c by suprise or without significant losses. And Egypt has go redundancy and US build GCI and C4I to continue the fight.

gixxxerking    Question #2 to FS   5/16/2005 4:18:31 PM
"-We have sophisticated mission prepartion tools where masking trajectory can be computed at low level" --FS Egyptians know Egypt about as well as your tools. SO what you are learning is everyday knowledge to the Egyptians. So you may find a SA-9 or two along your approach. Low level missions vs mobile AAA/SAM without extensive SEAD has proven to be bad tactics in GW1 and Serbia. And Egypt doesnt have to cover all the approaches. Just the ones you would be most likely to use. And there is one other issue. Fuel use at low altitude. How are you doing a Hi-Lo-Hi mission profile at the limit of your range FS. And since either jamming or radar will warn Egypt on the Hi portion of the ingress. Getting jumbep at low level by a Falcon is likely. This is a physical limitation you have failed to explain away?

gixxxerking    Question #3 to FS   5/16/2005 4:22:48 PM
"-Rafale ECM are outstanding and RCS low vs what have Egyptians (more other they don't have the best ECCM as US never export them even in NATO)" --FS Well once the it becomes obvious that you are going to attempt invasion. The Egyptians will assess their ECCM vs what you could bring and upgrade accordingly. You dont think France is the only country preparing for war do you? Also thats a very dangerous assumtion to think the current ECCM isnt current enough.

gixxxerking    Question #4 to FS   5/16/2005 4:38:27 PM
"Escortng F16 even they are 30 would not prevent 20 Rafale with 160 mica IR/EW to do their job." --FS Are you mad? The EAF isnt going to stick a critical asset like the E-2c out on the edge of the defense where you could get to it. It would likely be well behind the lines, about 100nm, where it would still detect you ate 150 to 200 nm off the coast. At the perimeter would be SAMs and a CAP for EW. You raid is detected from standoff and the E-2C moves futher inland while you deal with SAMs and Fighters. 30 F-16s/Mig-21 will exhaust you before you ever get in position to fire. 160 MICA? So those 20 Rafales arent carrying external tanks or bombs then. Along you route of ingress. You have over 100 fighters in position to scramble for intercept. 20 fighters vs a modern IAD FS? No way it works without suprise. You will take 75% or more casualties, many to lack of fuel. FS your plan require EVERYTHING, suprise, crew performance, intel, including missiles hitting to go 100% right. Thats a disaster. GO back to GWI. Coalition were close enough that once the AH-64 took out the GCI. Fighter bombers were over Iraq with enough numbers and "tempo" before the IAF could scramble and form a credible defence. SO the result was the individual Iraqi planes got airborne piecemail and got jumped on 5 to 10 to one with no support. You will be flying into the full EAF ready and prepared. Even if your initial operations achieve the objective. Attrition will stop you withing the week.

gixxxerking    Question #5 to FS   5/16/2005 4:58:55 PM
"-At the same time Apache antirunway start to crush runways for hours while stealth Scalp destroy armored shelters for aircraft, aircrafts, radar and command post and depots." --FS Oh boy. More kit list for kids. Ok let me help you again. Have you bothered to check the ranges of the weapons you list? Most of the Runways you need to hit are in the North East. 2 E-2C in the air plus GCI and your plan is sunk even more. "Stealth Scalp"...lol. Is that the official designation or the FS approved name. Look at the pathetic number of missiles in your strike. Compare to Iraq or Serbia. Egypt is much more powerful. Have you fired enough to account for attrition or malfuntion? Or do French weapons not have to worry about this?

gixxxerking    Question #6 to FS   5/16/2005 5:02:14 PM
"Then more conventional waves with PGM start to complete the job. No way Egypt F16 can take off in sufficient numbers under attack without runways and guidance." --FS More waves? I though we made it clear you dont have the tanker support for more waves. Why do you think we keep beating you on the head with the word TEMPO. That next wave is 8 hours or more behind. You can fix a lot of runways in 8 hours FS. Remember the surviving planes in the first wave need gas to make it back in most cases. LOGISTICS!!!

gixxxerking    Question #7 to FS   5/16/2005 5:06:27 PM
"On ground: E2C in flight are tracked permanently by Elint and OTH so we know where they are located as F16, when they come on ground. Then reco satellites give their exact locations and airfield topography." --FS OTH...lol. OK I have let this go on long enough. What OTH FS. Please tell me? Do you know that OTH is not reliable over land and most populated areas? Do you know that most OTH radars are fixed and used for EW only. Do you know OTH has huge blind spot between its footprint and the emitter? OK FS please before I die of laughter what OTH are we talking about?

gixxxerking    RE:Question #8 to FS   5/16/2005 5:13:05 PM
"Once half of F16 are destroy and all E2C, aerial battle is won. Then we need only few weeks to finish EAF then months at most to cripple their army at a point they don't move and they have only one third of their major modern assets. Then we can land safely in the less defended location. Whatever the scenario (3 or 9 months) we would do it and have the right number of tankers." --FS So the EAF has weeks to get a good hit on the FN! You dont see the paradox do you FS. Without the CdG you cant hit Egypt often enough or fast enough to make a difference. With the CdG you will waste too many resources just keeping her alive and thats highly questionable as well. THINK!!! And less than 1/8th of the Egyptian Army could stop a landing. Fact M1A1 can fire 6 to 7 rounds per minute. I have seen it done much faster!!! If even an Armored Platoon is missed on your landing site you are doomed. Why Because you have negligible TEMPO and response time on your CAS sorties.

Bluewings    RE:Gixxx points   5/16/2005 6:45:11 PM
You made some valid points Gixxx , but only some ... #1 You 're correct but I dare to say that it doesn 't really matter if we get detected 150nm away from possible targets . I 'll explain later why ... #2 "Low level missions vs mobile AAA/SAM without extensive SEAD has proven to be bad tactics in GW1 and Serbia" I disagree . One more time if was US pressure on NATO to fly higher to avoid casualties , especialy in Serbia where SEADs mission were nearly 80% of all missions . The fact is that you must fly low and "pop-up" ~and get spotted~ to react and launch Anti-Radiation missiles . Scalpel Bombing works at low altitude only , it is of course more risky but far more rewarding regarding destruction rate . You said : "How are you doing a Hi-Lo-Hi mission profile at the limit of your range FS." The "lo" only last for 300nm ~150nm in-150nm out~ and is not a problem as it is the usual practice . During GW1 , Tornados and Mirages flew lo-lo-lo for sometimes 500nm . "Getting jumbep at low level by a Falcon is likely" Indeed . But the first thing the Falcons will see in the escort at 30.000feet . Or the SEADs . They will probably wander where the French Strike Aircrafts are but WILL get busy engaging Escort/SEADs . We 'll make sure of it ;-) If the Strike Aircrafts are flying a 20% ingress , they will be or at 10 Oclock or 2 Oclock of the Vipers and under them ! A flanking climbing missile is a good missile ... #4 This one is interesting because it directly leads to the point I was going to make . The Air Campaign is about destroying Egypt AF ~ or her will to fight . In that regard , it wouldn 't matter at all if the E-2Cs were retreating inland as we simply would shotdown whatever they scamble at us ~without thinking anymore about the E-2Cs~ and go back to refuel . And start again . They would end-up with a "fleet" of E-2Cs without any fighters to talk to ! EAF has no choice but to come after us or to let us shotdown the E-2Cs . We win both ways . #5 Scalp : http://www.mbda.net/site/FO/scripts/siteFO_contenu.php?lang=EN&noeu_id=120 ---> Has been chosen for F-35 . Apache : http://www.mbda.net/site/FO/scripts/siteFO_contenu.php?lang=EN&noeu_id=114 #6 "TEMPO. That next wave is 8 hours or more behind. You can fix a lot of runways in 8 hours FS." Anti-runway ammunitions are not made to "destroy" the runway ~unless used in HUGE numbers~ but to keep aircrafts on the ground for a certain amount of time , which is called ~as you know~ a "window" . What do you do with that "window" is left up to the attacker , like Bombing the Airbase or going after important Air assets while the CAPs are kept on the ground , etc ... It is all about Timing as I said before . #7 "What OTH FS. Please tell me?" Here , I wander TOO what OTH Radar FS is talking about . As far as I know , NOSTRADAMUS is too far away from Egypt mainland to be of any use ... #8 "So the EAF has weeks to get a good hit on the FN!" No . We SAID that the FN stay out of range of EAF as Egypt has no Tankers , so is unable to strike at the Fleet . ********************************************** Gixxx , you 'll better start to believe that we can pull that off or you go for a big deception ;-) Cheers .

TXAggie93    Question #9 to FS   5/16/2005 8:54:30 PM
How do you keep strikes in France from slowing down your supplies? French holiday strike hits commuters Monday, May 16, 2005 Posted: 1834 GMT (0234 HKT) More than 1,000 people protest in southern French city of Marseille. Image: YOUR E-MAIL ALERTS France Europe Economy Jacques Chirac or Create your own Manage alerts | What is this? PARIS, France (Reuters) -- Strikes disrupted public transport and emptied classrooms across France on Monday as workers defied a government decision to scrap a public holiday to generate funds for healthcare for the elderly. Members of the government brushed off the protests over what unions called "a day of free work", but the action dealt a blow to President Jacques Chirac and his government two weeks before a vote on the European Union constitution. In another setback for France's conservative leaders, two opinion polls released on Monday showed 51 percent of voters who have decided how to vote on May 29 will reject the constitution. Pollsters say the holiday row has helped boost the "No" camp. "You cannot think that we can give up a day's holiday just like that," said Bernard Thibault, leader of the large CGT union which has urged workers to make the government's planned "Day of Solidarity" a day of chaos. France's cash-strapped government hopes taxes on Monday's production will generate an extra 2 billion euros ($2.6 billion) to be spent on healthcare for the aged. The Education Ministry said one in five teachers was on strike and the teachers' union said only 10 to 15 percent of pupils aged from 11 to 18 were at school. French unions said 27 regional transport networks had no service and services were disrupted in more than 70 others. But Transport Minister Gilles de Robien said there were no major disruptions on the SNCF rail network or Paris underground services, and called the situation "very good overall". Big picnic The holiday was for the Christian Pentecost, or Whitsun, which fell on Sunday. Responses to its scrapping varied from sector to sector, and from region to region. Air traffic returned to normal in the afternoon after protests caused short delays in northern France and at Orly airport south of Paris, air traffic authorities said. At least 3,500 people marched through Bordeaux in the southwest behind a banner declaring "No To Free Work". Up to 1,000 people protested in the northeastern town of Colmar, and over 1,300 in southern Marseille, witnesses and police said. About a third of postal workers were on strike and energy workers protested, unions said. Many shops remained closed. Opinion polls at the weekend suggested more than half of workers planned to stay at home -- 14 percent because they planned to strike. By dumping what was one of 11 public holidays, Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin hopes to avoid raising taxes on individuals. In 2003, the government was criticized for being unprepared and not acting fast enough to save lives when an August heatwave killed 15,000 people, most of them elderly. In Germany, members of the ruling coalition Social Democrats and Greens rejected calls by industry to scrap the Pentecost holiday. "France shows clearly that such an initiative would not be advisable," said Volker Beck, a Greens member of parliament. Polls released by the Ipsos institute and the CSA research group on Monday put the EU treaty "No" camp on 51 percent. An Ifop poll published on Saturday also put ahead opponents of the treaty, which is intended to make the 25-nation bloc work more smoothly following its enlargement in May last year.
