Subject: Ranking the Best Special Forces from NON-NATO Countries
ChaosEnforcer    1/31/2005 2:38:45 AM
We all know about the Great Special Forces from NATO based countries such as USA's Navy Seals and Delta Forces, British SAS, German GSG-9, French GIGN, Israeli Flotilla 13 Naval Commandos etc. But What about Special Forces from Non-NATO countries. Specifically these countries: China India Indonesia Brazil Pakistan Russia Nigeria Japan Philippines Vietnam Egypt Turkey Iran Thailand South Korea Ukraine Burma South Africa Colombia Argentina Saudi Arabia Malaysia Taiwan Singapore Australia What I want to know is, where would you rank each country based on its Special Forces. My Ranking would be something like this: Russia Australia Turkey Pakistan Japan South Korea Singapore India Thailand China Taiwan Ukraine Egypt Colombia Argentina Malaysia Iran South Africa Saudi Arabia Vietnam Burma Philippines Indonesia Brazil Nigeria What do you guys think?

Israel relies too much on new blood i.e immigrant Jews for keeping their SF good, something doesnt seem right there though the results seem good enough for now... just a gut feeling here.
It's not true. While immigrant can enter some SF,the list not include most capable.
For this disscursion it will be General Staff commando and Flotilia 13.Flotilia 13 minimum 5 years in country and you must be something very promising(heard of only one  such case) :),GF commando you cant get if you not born in Israel.
There is one more SF in the same liegue,Shaldag, dont know any immigrant there, through i didnt ask :).
Ofcourse there are other SF that allow immigrants, but lower level and all have some minimum requirements.
You can safely say that SF predominantly native born israelies.:)

Sorry i dont understend.
"sneakies"=security servises,or SF,or something else?

Palistinians or israeli arabs for that matter dont serve there.
There is a lot of informants in territories if that what you ask.Reason usualy money,or we keep some information about informant he dasnt want us to share.
Other then that, there is no palestinians in IDF or secret servises.:)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
About my previos post:
There is no clear requrements for years in country, only security check, but in reality you cant pass it if you new in country.

sneakies = SF.
as for palestinians/israeli arabs in the SF... i had a chat with a number of them from time to time and was lucky enough to 'build sandcastles' with them... care to disagree?

Ofcourse i disagree.:)
In SF we have only jews, druse, beduin.Well druse and beduin are not palestinians and they are not what we call israeli arabs, but they are ethicaly arabs ofcourse.:)
Beduin usualy get "Gashishim" or "Gadsar",well you can call it SF,they are very good at reading tracks on sand, but they are not SF in the same sense as GS commando.
Druse present in any SF,but proportionally to population.
Both communities valued very high in IDF,druse for spirit, beduin for ability to read traks. Both dont like palestinians.:)
Palestinian cant get to IDF.Israeli arab can volonteer, but they cant get very far, both Flotilia 13 and GS commando out of question. They usuali dont want it as well.:)
There was a problem only once,as arab boy wanted to be a pilot. Was painfull disscursion(unlike SF,that you can substitute in infantry, you have nothing to offer instead of flying) in israeli society, but in the end he was rejected.
So,people you talked to or druse,or beduin,or lying you in the face.:)
Druse or beduin usualy dont call themselves arabs and ofcourse dont call themselves palistinians.

well they must have been bloody good at lying infront of the rest of the mob aswell. it wasn't so much some bloke randomly talkin to me laying claim to being SF as it was they were there others were there, we were playing with 'guns and grenades'. what do i know, perhaps attitudes have changed since back then, but i'd bet london to a brick they were what they were.

you seem to have missed fiji on your list.  i've heard they have a tiny but extremely effective group of SF guys.

the fijians are a decent bunch of lads [albeit a rather small force]. however, their lack of publicity [and i mean real lack] means most have no clue who they are, what they do, how long they've been around, etc. etc. I'd definitely put them on the list though [even though my thoughts on these kinds of lists are at odds with the theme, you know... the whole apples/oranges, monkeys/elephants, farts/fresh air comparisons].

in fact it wouldn't surprise me if the original list was made up with no knowledge of most of the countries units.

an immigrant - especially one who's fled persecution and anti-semitism - can be just as loyal to Israel as a native-born Israeli.

FWIW, here's my ranking:

1 (tie). Israel
1 (tie). Australia
3. Russia
4. North Korea
5. South Korea
6. China

FWIW, here's my ranking:

1 (tie). Israel - always putting practie into action [because of the situation that confronts them where they are]. always quite an innovative bunch.

1 (tie). Australia - detail detail detail... the Oz SF train for every single and most minute occurence [in CT training for example, would have one preferred outcome but would change every detail to make sure all bases were covered, and i mean every detail]. NZ was similar in this aspect. both good bunch of lads with heads firmly on their shoulders, superb shooters/decision makers/willpower/the list goes on and on.

3. Russia - not if it's the russia i remember. too often understood mistakes but did nothing to correct them [hoped it was a one off occurance or something], ridiculous training/selection procedures [hazing comes to mind] made tough fighters but not ones that could match their ferosity with smarts and decision making intelligence. this often ended up promoting a 'shoot first, who said anything about questions?' mentality. for this section, i'm only going on what i was told by the green slime and others in various 'seminars' and teaching briefs, this may have changed.

4. North Korea - not the fogiest, apart from they practice hand to hand often [and are quite good at it one would suppose]

5. South Korea - see above

6. China - see # 4.
